UFC in Brazil: 11 Fighters That MUST Be on This Card
After the success of both UFC 134 and UFC 142, we should expect the UFC to visit Brazil more often.
The next time we see an event there, it could be headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen.
Even if the highly anticipated rematch does not take place in Brazil, there are plenty of other fighters who should be on the next UFC card in Brazil.
Here's a look at 11 fighters who should be considered for the next Brazil card.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
1 of 11Antonio Rogerio Nogueira may not be as big of a household name as his brother, but he is still a great Brazilian fighter.
Little Nog has yet to receive a shot at fighting in Brazil for the UFC, but you have to imagine he would love to.
Nogueira has a lot of pride for Brazil, as he represented the country in Boxing for the 2007 Pan American Games.
Edson Barboza
2 of 11Edson Barboza is becoming one of the best young stars in MMA.
Barboza is a perfect 10-0, which includes seven KOs.
Barboza was featured on the main cards of both UFC 134 and UFC 142 where he received "Fight of the Night" honors twice as well as and "Knockout of the night."
Fabricio Werdum
3 of 11At UFC 143, Fabricio Werdum made a triumphant return to the UFC when he defeated Roy Nelson.
Werdum looked great as he actually outstruck Nelson.
Werdum has expressed interest in facing UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos once again.
But, until that happens, picking up a big win in his home country would be big for Werdum.
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
4 of 11The last time we saw Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, he was in a war with Dan Henderson.
Before that tough fight, Rua was featured in the co-main event at UFC 134.
Rua looked like his old self in Brazil and was well received by the fans.
Vitor Belfort
5 of 11At the UFC's first event in Brazil back in 1998, Vitor Belfort defeated Wanderlei Silva in just 44 seconds.
The two are set to meet again roughly 14 years later.
It would be great to see both men fight in their home country of Brazil.
Belfort recently came from behind to defeat Anthony Johnson at UFC 142 and was a commentator for the UFC's return to Brazil at UFC 134.
Wanderlei Silva
6 of 11Wanderlei Silva's first UFC fight took place when he met Vitor Belfort at UFC Brazil in 1998.
Silva's now nearing the end of his career and is set to coach against Belfort for The Ultimate Fighter Brazil.
Silva has not fought in Brazil since the early part of his career. It would be a joy to see him fight there one more time.
Lyoto Machida
7 of 11Lyoto Machida has had quite the MMA career thus far.
Machida went 16-0, which included winning the UFC light heavyweight championship.
He has since gone 1-3.
Although he may seem to be in a slump, Machida is still one of the best and most difficult fighters to train for in the light heavyweight division.
Machida is one of the biggest Brazilian UFC fighters who have yet to fight in a UFC event held in his home country.
Junior Dos Santos
8 of 11Current UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is now on the shelf with a knee injury.
But once the champ comes back he will have Alistair Overeem waiting for him.
Dos Santos came from humble beginnings in Brazil and, despite being a major star, never forgot where he came from.
Despite being one of the nicest guys in the sport, Dos Santos is one of the most feared strikers in the division.
It would be great to see dos Santos finally get his chance to fight in Brazil for the UFC.
Jose Aldo
9 of 11Although Jose Aldo was just featured in UFC 142 last month, his post-fight reaction showed just how much the win in Brazil meant to him.
Aldo has pretty much cleaned out his division and could be better off moving to lightweight in the near future.
No matter what he decides to do, it would be great to see him fight once again in Brazil.
Chael Sonnen
10 of 11The only non-Brazilian on this list is Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen has disrespected not only the country of Brazil, but also the Nogueira brothers and about a hand full of Silvas.
You may wonder why he makes the list and if he would even make it out of Brazil alive.
But Sonnen is set to meet Silva in Brazil later this year.
In what could be one of the biggest events in UFC and MMA history, you will have Brazil's greatest fighter taking on one of the UFC's biggest villains.
Anderson Silva
11 of 11We know Silva vs. Sonnen II is going to happen.
This time the event will take place on Silva's home turf of Brazil.
Silva is one of the greatest stars in Brazil and will be highly motivated coming into the fight.
Although he's headlined one event in Brazil already, why wouldn't the biggest Brazilian fighter headline it again?
