Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Pac-Man Continues to Pump Up Fights Like Pretty Boy

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Has Manny Pacquiao gotten more boisterous with age?

Leading up to his fight with Timothy Bradley on June 9, Pacquiao is already trash-talking.

Here are a couple swift jabs courtesy of Pacquiao, via the Philippine Star:

"Tatakbo ‘yan (He will run)" and “Madumi nga (Yes, he’s dirty)."

Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, has contended that Bradley uses his elbows and head to gain an advantage in a fight, beyond his hands. It appears Pacquiao would agree.

This is not the first time Pacquiao has stirred things up, but it is the second time in his last two fights.

Pacquiao said before his grudge match with Juan Manuel Marquez in November, via Yahoo! Sports:

"

He thinks that if he is very nice and respectful to me before the fight then I will go easy on him and will not knock him out.

It is very smart. But I am smarter than him because I know what he is trying to do.

"

In a subtle way, Pacquiao was saying that he was going to knock Marquez out and that he was a smarter boxer.

Pacquiao also had some strong words for his foe (apparently) outside the ring, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

After Mayweather's controversial decision against Victor Ortiz, in which he hit Ortiz right after the ref's break, Pacquiao said, via AFP:

"

I won't do that. I don't want to disappoint the fans. I care about the fans. I don't want them to be disappointed.

Nothing wrong with what he did. It's legal. But we are talking about sportsmanship.

"

This is not the Pacquiao we've known all these years. Pacquiao has always been a silent killer, rarely talking trash before his fights and speaking with his gloves instead. This gets me thinking that Pacquiao is worried his luster has worn off.

Pacquiao did beat Marquez, but it certainly wasn't by a blowout, and some would say (myself included) that Pacquiao should have lost that bout on the scorecards. He also didn't exactly dominate Shane Mosley, who he was supposed to crush.

Now you have a situation where, after a fallout in negotiations with Mayweather's camp, Pacquiao is fighting in a vanilla matchup while Mayweather is fighting Miguel Cotto. By the end of both fights, I truly believe Mayweather is going to steal some of Pacquiao's thunder. After all, who's the most impressive fighter to beat, Cotto or Bradley?

Does this mark a transition for Pacquiao, where he's become a reality TV show character like Mayweather before a fight?

If so, it's going to make the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather pre-fight hype even more electric if the two ever agree to a bout.
