Ohio State Football Recruiting: Buckeyes' Focus Turns to 5-Star Stefon Diggs
Urban Meyer did what he does best and put together a sensational 2012 recruiting class for the Ohio State Buckeyes, but he isn't done yet.
With the news that 5-star athlete Davonte Neal has dropped Ohio State from his final list, Meyer and his staff most put all their attention toward 5-star athlete Stefon Diggs.
Buckeyes fans were hoping to get both, as they would tremendously help the offense. Last year, Ohio State had many struggles on offense with and without their top players available.
Getting these skilled athletes to step in and be impact freshmen is crucial for Meyer to build success immediately, which will in turn help recruiting even more.
Now that Neal is done with the Buckeyes, though, the pressure to get Diggs greatly increases.
Listed at 6'0", 185 pounds, Diggs is a special talent who has the skills to play running back or wide receiver. It's uncertain how much of role he will play his freshman year, but he's likely to be the primary return man wherever he ends up.
Diggs is similar to Percy Harvin, which goes to show how much Meyer needs and wants him because he knows he'd be able to do great things.
According to Derek Tyson of ESPN, Diggs will announce his decision on February 10, which is only a few days away. This means Meyer has little time to try and persuade Diggs to come to Columbus. It won't be easy either, especially when you consider the other teams Diggs is looking at.
According to Rivals, the 5-star athlete's top choices include Ohio State, Maryland, Florida, Auburn and California.
Dan Hellie, a sports anchor for NBC4, recently tweeted what he's hearing about Diggs, and Buckeyes fans will definitely love it.
Of course, it's hard to believe anything these days in the college football recruiting world, so it's best to just wait until Diggs finally opens his mouth to make a decision.
If indeed that is true, Meyer and his staff shouldn't rejoice because anything can happen. Getting complacent won't end well, as Diggs would likely choose a different school, which is why the Buckeyes have to be making a big last-minute pitch to him.
The trick is to constantly pursue him without going over board with it. The last thing you want to do is annoy the kid.
It's a huge mystery where Diggs will land, but one things for sure: Meyer and Ohio State have to make sure they're the ones that get him.
