Madonna Super Bowl Halftime Show: Queen of Pop Perfect for Stage of Stages

David DanielsFeb 5, 2012

Madonna will raise the Super Bowl halftime bar just like she did everything else in the music industry.

She wasn’t made to perform at Super Bowl halftime show—the Super Bowl halftime show was made for her. As one of the most influential musical artists in world history, the Queen of Pop will blow up on her biggest stage yet.

Madonna sat down with Anderson Cooper and talked about the expectations surrounding her halftime performance, saying:

“I’m so nervous, you have no idea.  First of all, it's the Super Bowl.  I mean the Super Bowl is kind of like the holy of holies in America right?  I have to put on the greatest show on earth, in the middle of the greatest show on earth.  I have eight minutes to set it up and seven minutes to take it down and 12 minutes to put on the greatest show on earth.  That's a lot of pressure.”

Madonna will be surrounded by names like Nicki Minaj, MIA and LMFAO that are, comparatively, one hit-wonders. At 53 years old, Madonna doesn’t run your local pop station anymore, but other performers will still pale in comparison.

Despite the butterflies, the seven-time Grammy award winner is the most successful female recording artist ever and is guaranteed to put on a show. Just carry your bag of Doritos over to the couch, because this year you won’t be able to use halftime to sneak into the kitchen and refill your chip bowl. The combination of Madonna and the NFL’s title game will redefine can’t-miss television.

And just to clear things up, she’ll go down as not the most infamous, but most famous Super Bowl performer ever. USA Today’s Michael McCarthy reported that Madonna promised to NBC’s Bob Costas that there will be no wardrobe malfunction in Super Bowl XLVI.

She will make the date the Holiday that it is.
