UFC 143 Results: Why Carlos Condit's Win Is Bad for the UFC
When the scorecards were read, nobody was really sure who was going to be the new champion.
The scores came down, 48-47, 49-46 and 49-46, for your new interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit.
With the win, Condit keeps his perfect record in title fights, and he can now call himself a UFC interim champion and one of the best fighters in the world.
It had to be the best day of Condit's life, but for the UFC, it wasn't exactly the best way that things could have gone for them.
When Diaz won the fight, any hopes of a Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz fight was spoiled, and we won't get to see Diaz receive "the worst beating ever."
The UFC lost out on what could have potentially become one of their biggest fights of all-time, as everyone would have tuned in to watch Diaz taunt GSP in the Octagon and to see what GSP could do when he really wanted to beat somebody.
Now, we look ahead to Condit's potential matchup against Georges St-Pierre.
For those that don't know, Carlos Condit is a very humble fighter. He doesn't trash talk, he doesn't piss people off, he just goes out there and fights.
Georges St-Pierre is very similar.
We will prepare for Condit against St-Pierre with no trash talk and no hype behind the fight, and many people likely have no vested interest in the fight.
Everybody wanted to see if GSP could get Diaz down, what Diaz could do off his back and how GSP would react to the in-cage trash talking.
By no means am I upset that Condit won. Condit is one of the best fighters in the world, and he deserves every chance to fight GSP.
But as far as the UFC is concerned, it can't be what they were hoping for.
