Super Bowl Prop Bets 2012: Worst Prop Bets for Biggest Game of the Year

Eric BowmanFeb 5, 2012

While the New York Giants and New England Patriots prep for Super Bowl XLVI, several people are having some fun with the prop bets related to the big game. Unfortunately, there are a few that are just plain awful.

Whether they're too easy or just not any fun, some prop bets for Super Bowl XLVI miss big-time.

A prop bet, also known as a proposition bet, is great for Super Bowl parties, because it's easy and gets everyone involved. You can wage money or do it just for fun, which is sometimes better because then you'd bragging rights for a full year.

With that said, here are some of the worst ones for Super Bowl XLVI, courtesy of bovada.lv.

Will Kelly Clarkson's Bare Belly Be Showing When She Sings the National Anthem?

It's a simple yes or no bet, but one that is very dumb and honestly a little offensive. Why does Vegas think Clarkson will show skin at all?

Sure, the game is being played in a dome, but it's still going to be really cold outside. It's pretty clear that Clarkson won't be showing off her belly during her performance. Since she's most likely heard of this wager, she should scoff at it—but then again, she controls it, so it's a chance for her to make huge money.

I don't think she's the type of person to do that, though. The entire prop bet is completely random and pointless.

It's a special song, and showing off her belly would just be wrong. Plus, using the word "belly" is a poor choice of words, as most women would prefer you say their stomach since belly implies something larger.

How Many Times Will X Person Be Mentioned or Shown During the Game?

This one falls toward multiple people, and all of them are terrible. Giselle Bundchen, Jim Irsay, Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning are a few, and it's a stupid prop bet.

Nobody cares about these people, because what's important is the game itself and the commercials. Yes, these are popular people and they have some sort of relevance to today's news, but no one wants to see or hear about them during the game.

What's more, this is an easy way to lose money, too, if in fact you are placing actual prop bets. Predicting the outcome for these prop bets is just throwing money away because it's too hard. Some parties will have prizes for those who end up getting the most correct, but I hope they didn't include these prop bets.

The focus should be on the game, but of course some of these people will be mentioned or shown during the game, which is unfortunate.

How Many Times Will David Tyree's 2008 Super Bowl Catch Be Shown on TV During the Game?

Don't get me wrong, Tyree's catch was out-of-this-world good (or lucky, depending on how you look at it), but it shouldn't play a role in this game.

Unfortunately, it's going to, because it's something easy for Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth to discuss, especially if somebody makes a great catch late in the game.

Tyree's catch has been so overblown it's ridiculous. He doesn't play football anymore, and the focus needs to be on the current players in Super Bowl XLVI.

Just about everyone has seen that catch, and they don't want to again. Unless, of course, they're Giants fans.

Still though, it's a dumb bet from a play that happened four years ago. Plus, the over/under is set at 1.5, which is silly.
