Lenny Kravitz NFL Honors: Award Show Will Be Dull Even with Sweet Sounds

Michael DixonFeb 3, 2012

Here is something that you need to know when going forward in life: Awards shows are boring.

It makes no difference how strong your opinion is on the subject of the awards, but the act of sitting down to watch an award show is on par with listening to a conversation between Bill Belichick and Ben Stein.

If you can manage to stay awake without changing the channel, your patience needs to be commended.

This is true even when Lenny Kravitz is performing. It is a rare occurrence when an event that Lenny Kravitz is at will be boring, but this easily qualifies.

There is nothing wrong with a simple press release. "Player X is the MVP. Player Y is the Defensive Player of the Year."

The NFL doesn't need to find a way to dominate every single second of Super Bowl week. It is perfectly acceptable to give the fans and the league a chance to relax and to get ready for the all-day affair that is Super Bowl Sunday.

This thing has one chance of keeping the fans awake all the way through. At roughly the halfway point when people are starting to drift off, give us some Lenny.

It won't make the actual presenting of the awards any more interesting, but it will at least rejuvenate the fans enough to keep them awake. That is something that only the special few like Mr. Kravitz can accomplish.

There is just very little interesting about watching an NFL player give an acceptance speech for winning an award. It doesn't matter who it is, or whether the award is deserved or not. We watch these guys because they're good football players, not great at awards shows.

Now, if this is just a creative way to get us a two-hour Lenny Kravitz concert, I don't understand the marketing, but I would be all for it.

That is what I am hoping for.
