4 Reasons Why Andre Iguodala Should Make the NBA All-Star Team
Andre Iguodala was snubbed from the starting lineup for the All-Star game this season during last night's reveal on the TNT pregame show.
He still has a chance to make the team as a reserve when the coaches vote for those spots in the near future. Iggy should be on the team this season and here are four reasons why Andre Iguodala should make the NBA All-Star team.
76ers on Top of Atlantic Division at 16-6
1 of 4The Sixers are 16-6 this season, and it is their best start in over ten years. They are probably the biggest surprise of the NBA this season considering they finished as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference last season.
Iggy's improved play has contributed much to this cause. Although his statistics haven't been exceptionally high, he has been more of a team player which has helped form the identity of this team as a unit as opposed to a superstar-driven one. The Sixers have been winning as a team which has been a refreshing change from the one-man show that was Allen Iverson in the 2000s.
The Sixers "Shut Down" Defense
2 of 4Iggy is the leader of the team despite his lack of All-Star nominations. This is personified in the team's improved defensive play where they have such a huge advantage over other teams.
The team leads the NBA in points allowed at 86 points per game and recently blew out the No. 1 team in the East, Chicago, by 16 points.
Iggy has always been known for his spectacular D and it's that trait which has allowed him to standout from other players in the NBA.
Winning with a Team First Mentality
3 of 4The Sixers are winning games this season by playing as a team with no player averaging more than 20 points. It is a different formula than what has been seen as successful, but it has been working for the Sixers this season.
Iggy has lower numbers this season, but the team overall is playing as one which has translated to success. They are in a position to get home court advantage in the playoffs if they continue to win and they have been having great success at home this season.
Long Overdue
4 of 4Iggy is in his eighth season in the NBA and has never been an All-Star. He has had several All-Star caliber seasons in the past, but has been left off the roster in favor of other players who may have been less deserving.
He has always been an exciting player to watch because of his highlight slam dunks and great defense. He was also robbed in the 2006 Slam Dunk Contest by Nate Robinson, but that is a different story altogether. Iggy has played lights-out this season and his team is playing some of the best ball in the league and he deserves to be recognized for it.
