Plaxico Burress: Fallout for Jets Continues After WR's Comments
Man, I'm glad I didn't play for the New York Jets last year.
The latest player to offer less than rave reviews was Plaxico Burress. Well, that's a bit misleading—Burress didn't offer any reviews. Even offered a chance to defend quarterback Mark Sanchez, he passed it up.
I'll let you decide for yourself what you think of Plaxico Burress' non-answers, which we'll take from Brian Costello's piece on him in the New York Post.

What does he think of Mark Sanchez as a quarterback?
“Mark Sanchez is Mark Sanchez."
Very astute.
What does he think of the criticism levied at Sanchez this offseason?
“I haven’t entertained any of it.”
Fair enough.
Here are a few more concise thoughts from Plaxico, all nicely bunched together in Costello's article:
"When he was asked if he was happy with how his year with the Jets went, he said, "It went as it went."
Asked if he thought the Jets used him to the best of his capabilities, he said, "They used me the way they wanted to use me."
When pressed about his opinion of how they used him, he said, "I just answered your question."
"
Will Burress be back as a Jet?
"I don't know what's going to happen. It's a business first. I'll evaluate my options going into the offseason and I'll make my decision based on that."
Often in the media, people read too much into the words of athletes, looking for deeper meaning or a story angle when really one doesn't exist. It's possible that is the case in this instance as well.
But man alive, if Burress wanted to be a Jet next year, don't you think he would have offered one positive word about either Sanchez or the Jets in this situation?
How hard would it have been to say, "Oh man, Mark Sanchez is my guy, he's a good player" or "I enjoyed my time with the Jets and I'd like to be back, we'll see what happens in the offseason"?
Burress answered these questions the way you might talk about someone you didn't particularly like but didn't want to come across as unprofessional when discussing with others, so you give non-answers that very obviously aren't meant as compliments.
It's hard not to read his comments and think, "Man, it sounds like it was miserable in that locker room this year. People were not happy with one another from top to bottom."
Maybe that's reading into things too much. But after a tumultuous offseason like the one we've seen in New York, it doesn't seem like such a stretch to think that Plaxico Burress is very much ready for a change in scenery.
