Andrus Peat Signs With Stanford: How Big of a Blow is This For USC?
USC headed into this recruiting class looking to make the most of every commitment that they bring in this class. The Trojans hoped to bring in Andrus Peat, but he decided to go with Stanford.
Peat is the No. 2 offensive tackle according to ESPN.com and has the build to make an impact at this level immediately.
Peat made his decision today to attend Stanford. Stanford has been drawing quite a few big-name recruits this class and Peat is one more that has been added to the fold. Peat will head to Stanford and help build the Cardinal into a steady Pac-12 performer, but where does that leave USC?
The Trojans were still able to land Jordan Simmons, Max Tuerk, Zach Banner and Chad Wheeler. All three guys are quality picks for the Trojans, but none have the talent that Peat would have brought to the program. All three are redshirt type guys as they will need the time to build mentally and physically into the program.
The Trojans return talent at the offensive line position and guys who have experience from this season. Not one of the current linemen on roster has the natural build and physical prowess of Peat.
Peat had the chance to play early at USC as well as Stanford, with both programs being on the rise.
One of his apparent favorites was also Nebraska, but Peat decided that staying in the Pac-12 was in his best interest. The Trojans are not going to fall apart with the loss of Peat in this class, but he would have been a huge addition and was a big target for Lane Kiffin and his staff.
The Trojans have had a very good haul this signing period and have filled numerous holes in the signing class with quality and talented players. The Trojans will not be short on offensive line talent in this class, but they will miss Peat.
It will also not be fun to face Peat in the future as he will battle the Trojans on a consistent basis as he plays for Stanford. The Trojans have been successful today, but missing Peat is one that hurts.
