Harry Redknapp: I Was More Worried About David Beckham
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has told the court in his tax evasion case that his mind was more on a potential David Beckham transfer than on his Monaco bank account.
The former Portsmouth boss is in court for dealings that occurred while he was at Pompey. In regards to a $100,000 cash transfer from his Monaco account to then Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric's account, Redknapp remarked, "All I was thinking about was marking David Beckham."
This adds to the strange incompetence arguments Redknapp has made in his defense. Last week, Redknapp claimed, ''I can't work a computer, I don't know what an email is, I can't, I have never sent a fax and I've never even sent a text message. I have a big problem, I can't write so I don't keep anything. I am the most disorganised person, I am ashamed to say, in the world.''

Redknapp also denied wrongdoing in taking cuts of player transfers today, explaining a certain situation involving the sale of Peter Crouch to Aston Villa in 2002.
According to Redknapp, he was "morally due" a 10% cut of the sale but, due to his switch of positions from director of football to manager, was only legally due a 5% cut. Mandaric then gave Redknapp an untaxed payment of an amount equal to the 5% he had lost. However, the ex-chairman claims the money was merely an investment in Redknapp as a manager and not payment for the transfer.
Harry is enjoying a wildly successful season with Spurs, sitting comfortably at third in the league and five points off the two Manchester clubs. The English manager has also been linked with the England national team job after Fabio Capello leaves his post in July at the conclusion of Euro 2012.
However, his legal troubles are threatening to derail his league season and his candidacy for the England position.
