Eddie Goldman to Florida State: Bold Predictions for He and 5-Star Mario Edwards
Is this heaven?
No, it is just Christmas—also known as national signing day—and Florida State nation is probably as pumped as the coaching staff was after learning they landed the best defensive tackle in the country in Eddie Goldman (No. 1 DT, No. 10 Overall, ESPN) to play alongside Mario Edwards (No. 1 Overall, ESPN).
It is great for fans to dream big and hope for the best because nothing is better than being optimistic about anything in life, but there needs to be some realistic goals and predictions placed on these defensive linemen.
So, here are your saucy and bold predictions for the futures of Mario Edwards and Eddie Goldman.
Keep it here all day on National Signing Day to get the latest and updated news and analysis.
Eddie Goldman Starts, Becomes All-ACC Sophomore Season
1 of 3Eddie Goldman is the bully you do not want to mess with, because he can become the next defensive superstar in Tallahassee.
The interior of the defensive line needs some help, as the Seminoles landed a stud in Timmy Jernigan one season ago. Throw in Everett Dawkins, Jacobbi McDaniel, Anthony McCloud and Cameron Erving and you are loaded with depth.
Throwing in Brandon Jenkins and Bjoern Werner (star defensive ends) in 2012 will only allow Goldman to tee off and feast on ACC opponents.
However, I would look for the top defensive tackle in the country (per ESPN) to have a nice impact next season, but bank on a sensational season during his sophomore campaign.
Looking into the crystal ball for his junior and potential senior seasons, Goldman could become an All-American similar to the studs of Darnell Dockett and Brodrick Bunkley.
Mario Edwards Goes Beast Mode in 2013, Legit Frosh Campaign
2 of 3First off, Mario Edwards is the top-ranked recruit by ESPN because he is a flat out bad man. He can get off the edge as well as any near 300-pounder can coming out of high school.
FSU has stated they wanted him to drop down close to 280 or so since they love him as a pass-rusher, but Mario Edwards could start for most BCS schools next season.
The Seminoles happen to have one of the best defensive lines in the country and the depth they are adding right now is absurd.
Look for Edwards to have a solid freshman season similar to Jadeveon Clowney, but one has to love the chances of Edwards starting and becoming an All-American type of defender (future first-rounder) in his sophomore and junior seasons.
Edwards' non-stop motor and amazing stunts are something you do not see from a pass-rusher at nearly 300 bones. If Mario Edwards continues to develop and takes it all in from his coaches and teammates, the sky is the limit.
ACC Titles and BCS National Championship
3 of 3Florida State currently has the second-rated class according to ESPN and these future stars will develop quickly with all of the talent already in Tallahassee.
Times are quickly changing for Florida State, as Jimbo Fisher has put together a few great classes during his two seasons.
FSU has come close to winning an ACC title and BCS National Championship, but the near future will likely bring both to Tallahassee.
Without a dominant team on the schedule in 2012, Florida State can once again dream big with the realistic possibility of contending for an appearance in the title game.
The defense was a top-five-caliber unit this past season and nearly everybody is back, and the offense is only going to improve.
If they can shore up their offensive line woes and get a tad more production from the running game, these recruits will help lead the Seminoles back to the promised land within the next three seasons.
However, without Oklahoma and perhaps West Virginia on the schedule, Jimbo may indeed put this program back on top of the college football world in 2012.
