National Signing Day 2012: Where Will Uncommitted Defensive Stars Land?
National Signing Day has finally arrived, and there are still several highly-regarded prospects who have yet to make a college choice. It makes for an extremely interesting day for college football fans, as they see if their favorite team can land a few big names.
Here are predictions for three of the most coveted defensive players still on the board.
Goldman is the best defensive player yet to pick a school. The monster defensive tackle has received offers from more than 20 teams, but has yet to tip his hand.
His final decision will be among the most talked about events of the day.
Hailing from the nation's capital, Goldman has the size and strength to step right into a starting lineup, even for an elite program. That's true for a couple defensive tackles, though. What really sets Goldman apart is his athleticism, which when coupled with his power, makes for a deadly combination.
Prediction: Florida State
Tracy Howard
Howard is the top available defensive back following a dominant senior season. While it seems to be a Florida battle between the Gators and Hurricanes to secure his commitment, there are still a handful of other teams hoping to sign him.
The first word that comes to mind when thinking about Howard is playmaker.
He has tremendous speed, which should be good enough to keep up with just about any college receiver, and the hands to match. He'll be a major star before you can blink.
Prediction: Florida
Aziz Shittu
The 2012 class is rich with defensive end talent, so Shittu has slipped through the cracks when it comes to the hype machine. Teams haven't missed out on him, however; more than two dozen programs are offering him a spot.
He's the prototypical speed rusher.
He'll line up on the edge and attack the opposing quarterback with ruthless abandon. That's exactly what every team is looking for as the game shifts more toward passing. A couple more moves at the line will take him to the next level.
Prediction: Stanford
