2012 National Signing Day: Eddie Goldman Would Flourish at Florida State
Eddie Goldman has a decision as big as his still growing stature. By the end of National Signing Day, the hope is that he lands feet first with Florida State, because that is the best fit for his talents.
Goldman will make his decision on ESPNU just after 10 a.m. ET today. Wednesday brings some of the biggest names in high school football to the forefront of the national consciousness.
Many will argue that such a semi-holiday like National Signing Day is unfair to these amateur athletes and I am among them. However, it's plain to see that the hype that surrounds the affair is not going anywhere.
The nation awaits these budding stars placing their names on the dotted lines and making their future intentions official.
There may be no bigger player or name that Goldman. Rivals lists the 5-star defensive tackle as 6'4" and 300 pounds. He will only get bigger and more powerful as he continues.
The book on Goldman is that he has obvious size and power, but it's his instincts and amazing first step that sets him above and beyond as one of the most sought after recruits in the nation.
Going into today, the jury was still out as to where Goldman would commit. He told reporters that the decision came down to a couple of things. Via SI.com
"All the schools are going to give me a chance to compete for a starting spot, but starting isn't always important. I can play but not start and still learn at the same time as a freshman. My sophomore year I plan to start if everything goes correct.
The final deciding factors for me choosing a school were the teams' future, how it's going to be in a year or two and my comfort level with the team and the coaching staff.
"
There is no telling where he may be heading, but Alabama coach Nick Saban, Auburn coach Gene Chizik and Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher all gave him in-home visits.
The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Goldman was leaning towards making the Seminoles a very happy program.
Brandon Jenkins will be back and the Seminoles defensive line will again be one of the best in the country. Behind the tutelage of Mark Stoops, the Seminoles are building a small legacy of defensive ends and tackles of some import.
It's clear through Goldman's own words that starting may be a possibility at all potential landing spots, but it's not crucial.
He would be entering the best place for a young defensive tackle to learn and groom his skills on the way to his sophomore season.
Goldman wouldn't be a flash in the pan by learning from someone like Jenkins on the field or Stoops off of it.
The key is to go to the place that gives you the best chance to win and to become the best player you can be. For Eddie Goldman, that is Florida State.
