National Signing Day 2012: Top Commitments Who Will Make an Early Impact
National Signing Day looms closer, promising to make mere high school students into something entirely different—millionaires.
The pressure will be immense, and these young men will live up to it immediately.
Here we wade through the top-shelf recruits who have made their intentions known and will now work toward making good on the promise their talents have made.
The next Heisman candidates and future combine maestros are settling in before the wake-up call that is collegiate football.
Here are the amateurs who will be just fine in year one, proving they were well worth the hype.
Shaq Thompson
According to Rivals, Shaq Thompson is ranked No. 4.
It pains this Cal Golden Bear to no end that Thompson did the 'ol dipsy-doodle on us and flipped to the Washington Huskies at the last minute, according to ESPN.
The Huskies are getting the best safety in the nation and a player that will serve up a heaping dose of super star immediately.
Colleges have been salivating over the budding defensive beast since his sophomore year, and now he will be locking it down in Washington.
Mario Edwards
According to Rivals, Mario Edwards is ranked No. 3.
Florida State is making one hell of a mark as the penultimate program for pass rushers. Edwards comes in as a defensive end ready to start tomorrow.
It usually takes ends a little bit to get up to the level of collegiate offensive linemen who have seen all the little tricks before, but Edwards comes in with immense talent and the ability to learn on the fly.
According to Rivals, Green-Beckham is ranked No. 1.
It wouldn't be the eve of National Signing Day if we didn't include a phenom who is yet to decide on a college destination.
Here's the one commitment who's pending heading into Wednesday, and one that the nation is watching very closely.
Green-Beckham is going to make Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma or Texas very happy. We can only hope to find out which one by tomorrow because he's the closest to a sure thing left on the docket.
Rivals sees him as the next Andre Johnson, which makes us very giddy.
