Ohio State Recruiting 2012: Do the Buckeyes Still Have a Shot at Stefon Diggs?
Trying to predict where a prospect will end up is extremely difficult. Especially when that player keeps everything so close to the vest and doesn't release much information. All you can go with is what he says about the schools he visits, but even then, you never really know what that player is thinking.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been one of the trickiest players to receive a hint from. He doesn't do many interviews and even when he does not much is revealed.
What we do know about Diggs is that he really likes Florida and Auburn a lot. It appears that they are the front-runners for his services. Even the 5-star wide receiver's mother visited Florida before her son did, so you know she's very interested in her son doing the gator chomp. Diggs says the Auburn Tigers make him feel at home and he could really see himself becoming a Tiger.
“I think it's probably my best visit yet,” Diggs said. “I feel comfortable here.”
Those two schools seemed like the favorite for the speedy wide receiver, but that was until he had his visit with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Diggs hasn't yet spoken about his visit, but he has put his final decision on hold and likely won't commit to a school on national signing day.
“I think he is a little confused right now,” High school football coach Bob Milloy said. “He’s got a little bit of a decision to make. He just got back from a visit to Ohio State.”
If Diggs was really favoring a school over another, he would likely make his decision on national signing day. If the Buckeyes visit didn't have an impact on him, again, he would likely make his decision tomorrow when the majority of the top players will.
It's no secret Ohio State has a lot to offer the young man as he could do a lot of damage in Urban Meyers' spread offense. Diggs is a playmaker and with his speed, it will really energize an offense that averaged less than 25 points a season ago.
He would have an opportunity to start right away with receivers like DeVier Posey and Dan Herron out of the picture. Plus Meyers' spread offense has already shown what type of career a player with Diggs' skill set can have as Percy Harvin finished his three-year career with 32 touchdowns.
I thought Florida was the clear front-runner for Diggs, but the longer he takes to make a decision, the more I think it favors the Buckeyes. Urban Meyer is great at what he does and I refuse to bet against him when a top recruit is involved.
I wouldn't call Ohio State the favorites quite yet, but they do have more than a puncher's chance to land the speedy wideout.
