Dorial Green-Beckham: Ranking Nation's No. 1 WR's Final Five Based on Team Need
Dorial Green-Beckham is the most coveted recruit in the country, and figuring out where he will end up is extremely difficult. What might be even harder though, is trying to determine which of his final five needs him the most.
According to Rivals, Green-Beckham's top choices are Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Rivals also compares him Andre Johnson, which is definitely a good sign for him and whichever program gets him.
All five of those schools are in dire need of a playmaking receiver, which is why Green-Beckham will be the most watched recruit on Feb. 1, also known as National Signing Day. Recruits will be sending in their national letters of intent, and all eyes will be watching to see where the top uncommitted players go.
Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, Green-Beckham is headed for great success in his college career. It's hard to rank based upon team needs because each of his final five need him more than any other recruit on their wish list.
There were conflicting reports on Green-Beckham on Monday about whether or not he made his decision, but everyone's best bet is just wait until he speaks on Wednesday.
That being said, here's my rankings for which teams need Green-Beckham the most.
1. Missouri Tigers
If the Tigers are to find success in their first year in the SEC, they're going to need a star like Green-Beckham on their roster.
Quarterback James Franklin can take the next step in his game by having a big threat on his side, but without the Hillcrest high standout, Franklin will have a hard time in the SEC.
Missouri returns T.J. Moe, but he isn't a game changer like Green-Beckham, and there is no way he can carry the Tigers by himself. The loss of tight end Michael Egnew and wideout Wes Kemp leave the Tigers in a bind, which is why they desperately need the playmaking wideout.
With him, the Tigers can make some big noise in their first season in the SEC East, but if they don't get this home town receiver, year one in the best conference in the country won't be very pretty.
2. Arkansas Razorbacks
The Razorbacks are losing three of their top four receivers from this past season, and they really need of a playmaker like Green-Beckham.
They don't get the top spot here because running back Knile Davis and quarterback Tyler Wilson are better than what Missouri has, so they can survive easier without Green-Beckham than Missouri can.
Jarius Wright and Joe Adams are the top two players in career receptions at Arkansas, and finding their replacements will be tricky.
However, if Green-Beckham were to pick the Razorbacks, Arkansas would remain a strong contender in the BCS picture. The Razorbacks appear to be the favorite, but it's still a mystery as to where Green-Beckham lands.
3. Alabama Crimson Tide
A.J. McCarron proved in the BCS title game that he could throw the ball well by making big plays with his arms.
Unfortunately, McCarron is losing his top four pass catchers from this past season. While Nick Saban has been recruiting very well and loading up on skilled athletes, they don't have anyone that's ready to be an impact star like Green-Beckham can be.
The reason the Crimson Tide don't make it higher is because they're deep in talent, but that doesn't mean they don't still need Green-Beckham badly.
With Trent Richardson off to the NFL, Alabama has a huge need for an athlete that packs a big punch on offense, but it's uncertain who that guy will be. Should Green-Beckham surprise everyone and choose the Crimson Tide, they won't miss much of a beat as they try to repeat as National Champions.
4. Oklahoma Sooners
Losing Ryan Broyles is a monster blow to the Sooners offense, but the return of Landry Jones keeps Oklahoma in the hunt for the Big 12 title.
Having Jones for another year is also the reason the Sooners don't make it higher on this list, plus wide receiver Kenny Stills is expected to step up and be the dynamic force Oklahoma needs.
Stills has excellent experience having played a lot as a freshman and sophomore, but there's no denying the Sooners would love to pair him next to Green-Beckham.
Jones is easily the best quarterback of the five that he could potentially play for, and if the Sooners had Green-Beckham they would certainly be back in the BCS title picture. However, other teams in his final five have a far greater need for him than the Sooners.
5. Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns lacked explosiveness this past season, as well as a legitimate red zone target. In fact, Texas completed only 32 percent of its passes with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the red zone during Big 12 play this past year.
That has to change in 2012, or else the Longhorns are in for another long year. They come in at the bottom because the other teams simply beat them in terms of need, plus the Longhorns group of receivers are all young.
Another offseason should help Jaxon Shipley, Mike Davis and Marquise Goodwin improve greatly. Of course, Texas would love to add Green-Beckham, but with inconsistent QB play from the Longhorns, I don't think he's going to go there.
Texas needs him, but not as much as the other schools do because the Longhorns have plenty of guys capable of making plays.
