National Signing Day 2012: Gunner Kiel and Future Pro Bowlers

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

National signing day is an exciting time for college football fans around the country. It's a chance to welcome some fresh faces to your favorite team in hopes of those players leading the program to new heights. It doesn't always work out that way, but that doesn't dampen the enthusiasm.

Here are three players from the incoming class that appear destined to have Pro Bowl careers.

Gunner Kiel

It took a while for the Kiel drama to sort itself out, but it seems like the quarterback has finally settled on Notre Dame. Following a season where the Fighting Irish struggled with turnovers from the marquee position, it's a nice addition for them to build upon.

Kiel has everything you look for in a pro-style QB. He has the size, accuracy and decision-making skills which should make him a superstar in South Bend. And the amount of exposure he receives playing at one of the nation's highest-profile schools will make him a sought-after NFL prospect as well.

There's no reason he shouldn't have a long football career, including a couple Pro Bowl trips.

Destination: Notre Dame

Dorial Green-Beckham

Green-Beckham is widely considered the top prospect in this year's class. There are still a handful of schools hoping to land the star wide receiver, including most of the national powerhouses like Alabama, but he hasn't tipped his hand quite yet.

Wherever he lands, his eye-popping skills should lead to a terrific career. He'll immediately become one of the most physically imposing wideouts at the college level, and is likely on the road to being picked early in the NFL draft.

He has all the talent in the world, now he needs to live up to the hype.

Destination: Undecided

Johnathan Gray

Following an awe-inspiring final season against inferior high school competition, Gray latched on with his home state Texas Longhorns. He'll have to battle for playing time at first, but once he takes control of the job there won't be any looking back.

The reason he's on track to have a great career not only at Texas but in the NFL as well is because he fits the mold. No longer is the position based solely on the ground-and-pound mentality. A back needs to be able to makes plays in the passing game as well, and Gray can do just that.

While a crowded backfield may keep his NFL stock reasonable for awhile, it will eventually go through the roof once he shows off his dynamic ability.
