Royal Rumble 2012 Results: CM Punk's Weak Title Fight Leaves Plenty of Questions
What the heck was the WWE Creative team thinking when they outlined the WWE title match between CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler?
Punk, the defending champ, was clearly the better wrestler, and as a result, it made for a very lackluster fight that had few twists and surprises. It certainly didn’t have the feel of a championship fight or something I’d drop 60 bones to see.
The prelude to the Royal Rumble just made me want to hit the fast forward button on the live event.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Aside from a handful of solid counters from Ziggler, Punk made him look like a weak, little wannabe. With annoying interim general manager John Laurinaitis buzzing around the ring like a house fly, I guess the randomness of what he might've done kept you on edge.
Yet he promised not to interfere with the match and screw over Punk, so the drama vanished somewhat. Having him jump into the ring after Punk performed another “Go to Sleep” on Ziggler and assist in the three-count was completely unnecessary.
So, Punk retained his belt and the crowd loved it. I don’t get it.
Punk has been on top for a while now, and his storylines are getting stale. He is getting to a point of such dominance that it makes his matches quite boring. Something needs to change, and I hope the Creative team realizes as much.
While turning heel is out of the question, why can’t he develop a beef with a guy like Chris Jericho or even John Cena? A wrestler that has a strong following with fans that can root strongly against Punk is what WWE needs right now. Currently, the cool thing to do is root for Punk, and I think it’s too one-sided after Sunday night.
Here’s to hoping that the next few weeks feature a less dominant Punk with more drama in his storyline. Right now, the needle is pointing way too far in Punk’s direction.
