2012 Pro Bowl Roster: A.J. Green and Rookies Worth Keeping an Eye on in Hawaii

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NFL Pro Bowl (7:00 PM ET, NBC) is far from meaningful in comparison to the playoff and Super Bowl matchups that sandwich it, but that doesn't mean there isn't good reason to watch.

Several big-name rookies will be featured in Hawaii on Sunday night, and they'll look to excite eager football fans in their first-ever NFL All-Star exhibition.

Which ones should we watch for? Check it out.

A.J. Green (AFC)

The rookie out of Georgia will be a starter for the AFC on Sunday. Green caught 65 balls for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011, helping fellow Bengal and AFC teammate Andy Dalton and Cincinnati reach the postseason despite long odds.

At 6'4", Green has the size, length and leaping ability to overcome even the stoutest of NFC defenses this weekend. If Dalton comes in to take a few snaps with Green on the outside, expect the star wideout to show some regular season-like intensity.

Cam Newton (NFC)

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft lived up to the hype and then some, leading the Carolina Panthers to a surprising 6-10 record and making the Pro Bowl in his first try.

Newton's 4,051 yards passing and 14 rushing touchdowns were eye-popping and will be on display in Hawaii for the NFC side.

Newton is capable of rushing for more than 100 yards in a game as well as throwing for more than 400, which he did in Weeks 1 and 2 this season. That kind of dynamic playmaking ability make the former Auburn Tiger and national champion a can't-miss talent this weekend.

Newton will replace the Super Bowl-bound Eli Manning.

Von Miller (AFC)

When the Denver Broncos took Texas A&M's Von Miller in the top 10 of last spring's NFL draft, they could not have expected what they got during the 2011 season. Miller made 64 tackles as a rookie, and he racked up 11.5 sacks with two forced fumbles.

Miller helped the Broncos win their first playoff game since 2005 over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card, recording a few tackles and a sack of Ben Roethlisberger. Watch for Miller to bring a playoff intensity to the AFC's defense in this year's Pro Bowl.
