Norwich City: 4 Things Noticed in WBA Cup Win
Norwich City are not accustomed to a cup run—but it appears that they finally have one. The 2-1 victory over West Brom has put the club in the fifth-round draw of the FA Cup.
There were a number of big performances out there, and Paul Lambert deserves a lot of credit for altering his team selection—while still fielding a team that was able to win the game.
The Canaries have been rewarded for the win in this game with a home draw against Leicester City in the next round.
Jed Steer Will Have a Big Future in the Game
1 of 4The one big selection that Paul Lambert made on Saturday was to hand young goalkeeper Jed Steer his debut. The 19-year-old put on a superb display by making a number of good saves.
It goes down as another masterstroke by Lambert and showed what a big future the goalkeeper will have in the game. The fact that Norwich City also have Declan Rudd, as backup to John Ruddy, shows that the club are well stocked with good goalkeepers.
Paul Lambert Is Taking the FA Cup Seriously
2 of 4It has been a long time since Norwich has had a decent cup run. However, with this win the club has reached the fifth round and look in good shape.
Lambert will know that the Premier League is the priority, but with his team well placed in the league table, the Canaries can afford to have some fun in the cup as well. The Norwich City manager has freshened up his team selections but, at the same, time put out a team to win the game.
Winning breeds confidence, and the team can look for that irrespective of the competition.
Players Are Hungry for Goals
3 of 4At times in the past the players have been accused of not putting on their best performances in cup matches. This was certainly not the case on Saturday: Simeon Jackson and Grant Holt each took the opportunity to add another goal to their season's tally.
It is certainly good to see such performances in cup games as well as league games.
Elliott Bennett Seems to Be Improving
4 of 4The former Brighton winger has taken a bit of time to settle and been outshone by Anthony Pilkington. However, Bennett was back in the team and showing the level of creativity that he was signed for.
He may need to score a few goals, though, to win over all Norwich fans. I have always maintained he has all the attributes to be a top-class Premier League winger.
