National Signing Day 2012: Dorial Green-Beckham and Uncommitted Players to Watch
With National Signing Day just days away on Feb. 1, there is plenty of anticipation regarding where some of the top uncommitted recruits might end up. Coaches are certainly making last-ditch efforts to sure up their recruiting classes, but it will ultimately come down to the players' decisions.
There is still some elite talent that has yet to be snapped up, so this National Signing Day could be as exciting as any one in recent memory. Here are three uncommitted players that you will want to keep an eye on as they could be the future stars of college football.
Eddie Goldman
It isn't often that the top player at his position is available this late in the game, but that is the case with Eddie Goldman. The 6'4", 310 lb. lineman from Washington D.C. is the No. 10 overall player according to the ESPNU 150, and he is the best defensive tackle. Goldman is also one of just 11 five-star prospects in the class, so it's no surprise that teams are vying for him until the bitter end.
According to James Wagner of the Washington Post, Goldman has narrowed things down to three choices. All indications are that he will go to Alabama, Auburn or Florida State. Whatever the case, Goldman will end up at an elite program, and that program will be getting a potentially elite player. Goldman has a world of potential thanks to his size and athleticism, so his decision could have a big effect on the college football landscape.
Andrus Peat
Every football team can use a cornerstone left tackle, and that is precisely what Andrus Peat can develop into. The Tempe, AZ product is ranked No. 9 overall in the ESPNU 150, and is the No. 2 offensive tackle. He has prototypical size at 6'7" and 300 lbs., so he should be a huge asset in the running game. He also has the athleticism and technique to thrive as a pass blocker.
Unlike Goldman, Peat still has a lot of teams to sift through. According to Brian McLaughlin of Sporting News, Peat still has 13 teams to pick from after passing on two-thirds of the scholarships that were offered to him. Not surprisingly, his list includes most of the nation's top teams. There really hasn't been any indication regarding which way Peat is leaning so his choice should be a climactic one.
Dorial Green-Beckham
Perhaps the most talked about player throughout the recruiting process, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham is the crown jewel of uncommitted players. Green-Beckham, of Missouri, is ranked No. 4 in the ESPNU 150 and he is by far the top receiver in the class. He truly seems to have every tool you look for in a great pass catcher as he supplements his 6'6", 220 lb. frame with great speed and leaping ability.
The explosive receiver is the type of player who can have an instant impact, so he will be the biggest story leading up to National Signing Day. According to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, DGB has narrowed his choices to Missouri, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma or Arkansas. Green-Beckham hasn't shown his hand, but I think it would be great for college football if the underdog, Mizzou, could secure Green-Beckham and keep him in his home state.
