National Signing Day 2012: Stefon Diggs and Huge Stars Yet to Commit

Donald WoodJan 28, 2012

With National Signing Day less than a week away, the February 1st event has become a college football holiday.

This year’s celebration will include some huge names that will help shift the balance of power in college football. With more SEC dominance, West Coast schools have also really stepped up their recruiting.

Almost every big program in the nation would love to get their hands on any one of the following players, but only a few will be serious contenders. These are the players to watch for on Signing Day.

Stefon Diggs

There is no better all-around offensive weapon yet to commit than Stefon Diggs and his lightning speed. And while most burners are small, Diggs is 6’1” and 190 pounds.

With plenty of room for growth on his frame, Diggs is the perfect versatile back that mixes power and speed. The right development in an elite program will be exactly what he needs to become the football star everyone knows he can be.

Auburn, California, Florida, Maryland, Ohio State and a few other stragglers have expressed interest in the young star and offered him a scholarship. While no decision is clear, whichever school gets Diggs will be getting a bona fide star.

Arik Armstead

While there is some confusion about what position Arik Armstead will play once he gets into college, the only thing certain is that he will dominate at whatever spot he fills in.

The 6’8”, 280 pound defensive/offensive lineman has yet to find his proper role as a football player. The good news is that he has so much natural size and talent that he will become a stellar player at whichever position he goes for.

As good as the big star has been on the defensive line, he has the body and skill set to become a dominant NFL offensive lineman. Given the right coaching staff, it won’t be long before Armstead is playing tackle. Offensive, that is.

Dorial Green-Beckham

There is no better recruit left to commit than wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham from Springfield, Missouri. Rivals.com is comparing the 6'6" Green-Beckham to Andre Johnson.

While it’s far too early for a comparison that drastic on a talent basis, I feel that DGB carries himself on and off the field in the same demeanor Johnson always has.

With the right attitude to make it through college by absorbing as much knowledge as possible, Green-Beckham will make whichever team he decides on very happy.
