Matt Cassel and His Wife Play Hero by Helping Neighbor Escape Burning Home
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel wasn't able to be a hero for his team on the field this NFL season, but he has certainly been one off of it.
On Thursday night, Cassel's wife spotted smoke coming out a neighbor's house and Matt ran over to the home to try to help.

"Cassel ran to his neighbor's house, rang the doorbell, pounded on the front door and started to circle the house until he saw the woman who lives there come outside. The woman said she didn't realize her house was on fire until the Cassels acted.
"
While his community thinks Cassel is a hero for helping the woman realize her house was on fire and helping to alert her before she was in real harm, the Chiefs star isn't calling himself a hero.
"One neighbor told KMBC 9's Cliff Judy, "I know Matt wouldn't want this kind of attention, but I definitely think he was a hero last night."
Late Friday night, Cassel called a neighbor and gave permission for the man to relay a message to Judy. "I wasn't heroic at all," Cassel said. "I just ran up to the house and alerted them. The real heroes are the firefighters."
"
Regardless of what Cassel thinks, he really is a hero. This is exactly the kind of actions that make Cassel such a likable person and football player. This woman easily could have been harmed if Cassel did not quickly run over to her house and alert her of what was going on.
According to KMBC, fire officials said the house was significantly damaged in the fire. The cause of the blaze has not yet been discovered.
Thanks to Cassel, there were no injuries in the fire and his neighbor was able to get out in time. His actions were what we all hope from our neighbors and regardless of what he views himself as, on Thursday night, the Chiefs quarterback was a real hero.
