NHL All Star Game 2012: Intriguing Line Combinations We Would Love to See

Mike ChiariJun 4, 2018

With the second annual NHL All-Star Game Fantasy Draft complete, we now know the rosters for both Team Alfredsson and Team Chara. Not surprisingly, both teams are stacked with elite talent so the All-Star Game should be a tight contest as usual.

The best part of the fantasy draft is it tends to create strange bedfellows. Players that we thought may never have the opportunity to co-exist will have to do just that on Sunday. With so much offensive talent, it begs the question of which line combinations would be most interesting.

Here are three lines that, for one reason or another, hockey fans would most like to see in the All-Star Game at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa.

Milan Michalek - Jason Spezza - Daniel Alfredsson

It was no surprise to see captain Daniel Alfredsson select all of his Ottawa Senators cohorts and it won't be a surprise if they all end up on a line together. The host Senators will be well-represented in the All-Star Game as forwards Alfredsson, Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza, as well as defenseman Erik Karlsson will all play for the aptly-named Team Alfredsson.

Obviously the home crowd would love to see all of the Senators skate together, so a line of Michalek, Spezza and Alfredsson is a very strong possibility. Not only would the line have a ton of chemistry, but all three players are having very strong seasons. Michalek has an impressive 23 goals, Spezza has 50 points and Alfredsson has bounced back from a tough 2010-11 season with 38 points. I suspect we'll see the rejuvenated Senators skate together on Sunday.

Phil Kessel - Tyler Seguin - Joffrey Lupul

Now this would be an interesting line. Prior to the 2009-10 season, the Boston Bruins traded skilled forward Phil Kessel to the Toronto Maple Leafs for three draft picks when they couldn't strike a deal with the restricted free agent. Kessel is now making his second-consecutive All-Star appearance as a Leaf as he has 51 points on the season. With one of those draft picks, the Bruins selected Tyler Seguin second overall and he happens to be on Team Chara as well.

Because of that, two players who were essentially traded for each other could end up on the same line in Ottawa. Also, while Joffrey Lupul isn't linked to Kessel or Seguin in such a profound manner, he is Kessel's teammate in Toronto, so there is some obvious chemistry. The trade seems to be one that worked out for the Bruins and the Leafs as both Seguin and Kessel are All-Stars. Now, for just one day, they're teammates as well.

Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Steven Stamkos

As twin brothers who have played hockey together since childhood, Daniel and Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks have an innate sense of where the other is on the ice at all times. That certainly shows in their statistics as they have each won an Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer in consecutive seasons. Imagine what they might do, however, with a legitimate sniper on the other wing.

Imagine no more as the Sedins could easily be paired with Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who happens to lead the NHL in goals this season with 32. Stamkos has back-to-back seasons with at least 45 goals, so he may be the preeminent goal scorer in the league right now. When you combine that with the intuitive playmaking ability and chemistry of the Sedins, you get a line that could lead Team Alfredsson to victory.
