National Signing Day 2012: Tracking the Top 25 Quarterback Prospects
Today, we're going to be doing some simple updating and tracking of college football's top prospects at a couple different positions leading up to national signing day. Nothing too fancy and outstanding.
In essence, I'm going to looking at my top 25 position boards and just giving you the latest on each player I have ranked on the board.
Should be a fun read. Let's start it up.
25. Jeremy Liggins (LSU)
1 of 25UPDATE: Liggins has signed with LSU.
The latest on the 6'4", 260-pounder is he took a recent trip to Alabama, but it appears Mississippi State and Ole Miss are the favorites to land him. LSU also is in the mix. A decision could come next Tuesday.
24. Tyler Cameron (Wake Forest)
2 of 25Not much change here with Cameron, as he looks firm in his commitment to Wake Forest. The southpaw slinger de-committed from South Florida in favor of playing for Jim Grobe's program.
23. Jared Johnson (Uncommitted)
3 of 25I have Johnson listed as a QB, but he's likely to play DB in college. He was initially pledged to Baylor, but that is no longer the case.
22. Wes Lunt (Oklahoma)
4 of 25Lunt has stuck with his pledge to Oklahoma State. The 6'5", 205-pounder should come in and entrench himself in the playbook, as he hopes to fight for the job with J.W. Walsh and co.
21. Blake Rankin (Rutgers)
5 of 25Rankin is in a state of flux. He thought he was bound for Rutgers to play for Greg Schiano, as he was fresh off a visit earlier this month, but that won't be the case. Stay tuned to see if Rankin signs elsewhere next week.
20. Shane Dillon (Colorado)
6 of 25Shane Dillon is a tall and skinny QB with some release quickness—I like that. Not much here either, as he's solid to Colorado. Eric Bieniemy should like working with him in Boulder.
19. T.J. Millweard (UCLA)
7 of 25Millweard is enjoying a subtle rise up many boards, as he lands here on mine. He's a tall gunslinger with good touch. He's headed to UCLA, as he bolted away from the Arizona State class in the midst of the new staff turnover.
18. Cyler Miles (Washington)
8 of 25Miles is a great dual-threat QB, and he also has not seen much change. He's bound for Washington still and will head to Seattle with another QB on this board...we'll get to him in a bit.
17. Trevor Knight (Oklahoma)
9 of 25Knight is solid in his pledge to Oklahoma. He's a 6'2" guy and will benefit greatly from a college strength program. Look for him to be a sleeper down the line.
16. Chad Voytik (Pitt)
10 of 25I wasn't overly impressed with Voytik at the Army game, but by no means am I basing my full overall evaluation on him with that one All-Star game. Not much has changed with him on the recruiting front—he's solid to Pitt.
15. Anthony Alford (Southern Miss)
11 of 25Change here is also missing, as Alford is locked into Southern Miss. He pledged earlier this month, but the Golden Eagles are still a tad nervous, as Alford could choose to play baseball instead.
14. Will Gross (Memphis)
12 of 25I'm very interested to see what Gross does in college, as he has a great athletic skill set. He's 6'2", has a strong arm and can make plays with his feet. No change here, as he's still set for Memphis.
13. Jake Rodrigues (Oregon)
13 of 25Rodrigues is another QB on this board that interests me a great deal. He's 6'3", 215 pounds and has a solid arm. But he's an above-average runner and a solid athlete. Oregon has a potential good one here.
12. Jeff Lindquist (Washington)
14 of 25Not much change here either, as Lindquist is headed to in-state Washington, along with Cyler Miles. He has a chance to remind the Husky Faithful of the man they simply know as "Jake."
11. Devin Fuller (Uncommitted)
15 of 25I don't think Fuller winds up as a QB in college. Well, he could, but I think he may play free safety. He's 6'0" and 185 pounds with excellent speed and agility.
The latest with him is that he will make his announcement on Sunday. Arizona, Nebraska, Rutgers, TCU and UCLA are in the hunt.
10. Greyson Lambert (Virginia)
16 of 25The latest with Lambert is there is no change. He's going to Virginia to give Mike London a solid QB of the future. His length, solid arm strength and high ceiling should all come together for the Wahoos.
9. Bart Houston (Wisconsin)
17 of 25Houston is locked into Wisconsin, so there's no change here. He'll head to Camp Randall to compete for the job Russell Wilson had this past season. Houston's a gamer and a winner, so he could be a hit in Madison.
8. Maty Mauk (Missouri)
18 of 25Missouri has to be giddy over getting Mauk. He's experienced in the spread, and I expect him to put up some huge numbers whenever he sees the field.
No change here—he's just like the rest of the Tiger program: crossing their fingers in hopes Dorial Green-Beckham signs with them.
7. Connor Brewer (Texas)
19 of 25Brewer has been locked into Texas since last spring. Nothing's changed much with him, as he's going to Austin to learn Bryan Harsin's offense and develop his craft. You may not hear from him for a year or two, but Brewer has a chance to make some noise.
6. Zach Kline (Cal)
20 of 25Kline is letting all the Cal talk wash off his back, as he's solid to the Bears. He's going to learn from Jeff Tedford and try to get some snaps as a true freshman this season. A redshirt wouldn't hurt either.
5. Zeke Pike (Auburn)
21 of 25Pike is a big and strong QB that will only get better with more seasoning and development. He's committed to Auburn and there's no change with him during this tracker.
4. Matt Davis (Texas A&M)
22 of 25Davis is pretty set in stone to attend Texas A&M, as he's on track to be an early enrollee and be at the spring practices. He should develop well and work fine in Kevin Sumlin's offense.
3. Tanner Mangum (BYU)
23 of 25Mangum will leave for his LDS mission after high school, and BYU will see him on the field two years from now. He's a solid QB prospect that has an easy feel for the game.
2. Gunner Kiel (Notre Dame)
24 of 25Kiel shocked the nation and enrolled at Notre Dame this month. He was once pledged to Indiana and then LSU, but the Irish stayed persistent and won at the end. He will compete for the starting job this year.
1. Jameis Winston (Florida State)
25 of 25Winston is the top QB on my board, and the latest with him is that he took his trip to FSU last week. He's committed to the 'Noles, but Alabama and Stanford are on his case. I think he signs with FSU after all.
