Dorial Green-Beckam: Why Top WR Is Most Ready Recruit to Contribute Immediately
There are elite recruits, and there are elite recruits ready to contribute.
Dorial Green-Beckham, the 6'6", 220-pound wide receiver from Springfield, Missouri, is this year's top ready-to-contribute recruit.
DGB is a 5-star prospect across the board. ESPN has him ranked at No. 3 overall, Rivals has him ranked No. 1 overall and Scout has him ranked No. 1 overall.
The list of schools he's considering, according to all agencies, include Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and USC. He's since whittled that down, according to FOX Sports, to Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
He basically had his pick of any of the top programs in the entire country and wound up picking schools still relatively close in proximity to home.
Green-Beckham will make his decision on National Signing Day, and he's anxious for the recruiting process to be over.
Andrew Astleford of FOX Sports quotes the youngster as saying, "I think we’re just glad that it’s almost over. The end is in sight."
But the end is means for a new beginning, a new beginning he's ready to take on.
Not every school expects their incoming freshman to make an immediate impact.
DGB's impressive size aside, he's the type of kid whose work ethic will determine how good he wants to be and how far he can go. In high school, he can get away with not working his absolute hardest and still dominating because of his size and athleticism.
He didn't just rest on that, though. Instead, he caught 119 passes for 2,233 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. His 6,353 career receiving yards set a national record.
He pushed himself to be not only of the best in the country, but possibly one of the best high school receivers to ever be recruited.
Next year on Saturdays, he'll have a blank slate, albeit with high expectations, to push to a new level.
He physically doesn't have to worry about matching up with anyone. The only thing standing in the way of DGB's success is himself. If his drive to be great at the high school level is any indication, he'll be making a name for himself the minute he steps on the field.
