Ohio State Football Recruiting: 3 Studs Urban Meyer Must Get to Columbus
Just when you thought it was over, you were wrong. With national signing day just a week away, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer is going to continue to build this 2012 football class. When it is all said and done, he could potentially have the best there is. He won't be able to get there though without signing a few more key recruits.
With 23 recruits already in the bag, Meyer has the Buckeyes sitting at the No. 3 spot in the 2012 recruiting rankings according to rivals.com.
He already has two 5-star recruits locked up in defensive ends Adolphus Washington and Noah Spence, while also stealing 4-star recruit offensive lineman Taylor Decker from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, potentially sparking a new rivalry before things even get started on the field.
Meyer currently has 12 other 4-star recruits signed for next season, as well as eight 3-star players. He will be looking to add to that list by trying to grab these final few players by national signing day.
Joel Caleb, 4-Star ATH
You can never add too many athletes to your team, and Caleb will be a player that Meyer should be trying hard to sign.
With the Buckeyes within his top three choices, along with West Virginia and Virginia Tech, the No. 7-ranked athlete overall would really help bolster Meyer's recruiting class.
In high school, Caleb played quarterback and many other positions. During his junior season, he passed for 1,343 yards with 20 touchdowns, while also running for 843 yards with eight rushing touchdowns.
It would remain to be seen where Meyer could see him fitting in, but at this point he has yet to get a commitment from a quarterback rated higher than a 3-star recruit. Could Caleb be that guy?
Armani Reeves, 4-Star CB
Meyer already has a few defensive backs committed, but you can honestly never have too many. Reeves, out of Massachusetts, would give the Buckeyes another strong recruit for their secondary.
The only other team in the chase for him right now is their biggest rival, the Michigan Wolverines.
Of all the defensive backs Meyer has been able to get to commit, none of them are as good as a 4-star cornerback recruit like Reeves is.
He has a lot of underclassmen currently on the roster at the defensive back position, so this will not be a huge need for the team. Still, if they can get him it will keep the Wolverines without a potential stud in the secondary.
Stefon Diggs, 5-Star WR
Meyer loves to have elusive, big, playmaking wide receivers. With that said, he would likely love to sign Diggs out of Maryland. The 6'0" receiver is ranked the second-best receiver in this class, and he currently has the Buckeyes as one of his top choices.
In 2010 as a junior, he had 811 receiving yards with 23 touchdowns. He is set to visit Ohio State on Jan. 27th, so the team should have a better idea of where they stand going into signing day.
Meyer has already grabbed a couple wide receivers, but this is one that he would love to have going into his inaugural season.
