Michigan Football Recruiting: Wolverines Didn't Need Top Recruit Caleb Stacey
When you lose a top recruit like Caleb Stacey, that can be devastating for some college football programs.
But despite Stacey—a 3-star guard—decommitting from Michigan and joining Cincinnati on Saturday, the Wolverines won't exactly be down in the dumps.
That's because the Wolverines not only have 4-star guard Blake Bars, they have a wealth of offensive linemen to choose from.
In addition to Bars, the Wolverines landed 5-star tackle Kyle Kalis, 4-star tackle Erik Magnuson and 3-star tackle Ben Braden.
Michigan also is in the running for the No. 2 guard in the country, according to Rivals.com. Josh Garnett, a Washington product, will choose between Michigan and Stanford.
But wait, there's more. Four-stars Jordan Diamond and Alex Kozan are also considering the Wolverines.
The Wolverines could potentially replace Stacey, the No. 17 guard in the nation, with Garnett, the No. 2 guard in the nation. Yeah, not a bad trade-off.
But while Garnett would be a great addition for the Wolverines, it's not like they are dying to land him. They have so much depth on the offensive line that they're ranked No. 1 at the position in the 2012 class by Rivals.com.
Remember, Michigan still has quarterback Denard Robinson, who rushed for 1,176 yards and 16 touchdowns last season en route to leading the Wolverines to a Sugar Bowl victory. Now he has an even better offensive line, which could make him even more of a threat on the ground (and in the pocket).
Wolverines fans can worry about other positions this season, but the offensive line is not a problem, even with Stacey leaving for Cincy.
