Ohio State Football Recruiting: Where Do the Buckeyes' Top Targets Stand?

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

Ever since the Ohio State Buckeyes hired head coach Urban Meyer, they have been on fire this offseason, putting together one of the most impressive recruiting classes this year. It seems like every other day Meyer is reeling in another top player and stealing them from the rest of the Big Ten teams.

I guess that's why he gets the big bucks.

But while the Buckeyes already have one of the most talented classes already, Ohio State isn't settling for what they have. There are still plenty of other top prospects out there who are considering becoming a Buckeye and whom this program has a great chance of landing.

Here is where Ohio State stands with some of the top players who are currently uncommitted.

WR Stefon Diggs

Diggs is the speedster wide receiver who will have an instant impact for whichever team he ends up committing to. He's a playmaker with the ball in his hands and could even play a little bit of special teams as well.

He's already visited schools like California and Auburn, and he really likes Florida, but a visit with Ohio State is coming soon.

Right now it appears the Gators are the favorite for his services, but of course anything could happen. I wouldn't count the Buckeyes out yet, although it does appear to be somewhat of a long shot.

He'll make his decision on February 10.

OT Jordan Diamond

Diamond is currently still wrapping up his visits, as he just took a visit to Michigan and is planning on looking at Arkansas. He's also already made his visits to Auburn and Ohio State back in December. Diamond is an aggressive tackle and has great size at 6'6", 290 pounds. He'd be a great addition to any offensive line.

Although it's hard to find out anything with Diamond, as he's keeping everything really close to the vest, I really think it's going to come down to Ohio State and Michigan, and with the lack of depth on the offensive line and Meyer, the Buckeyes may win this battle.

CB Davonte Neal

Neal is a versatile player who can play either side of the football. Regardless of what position he ends up playing, he doesn't have great size at 5'9", 275 pounds, but he is a tough kid, with great leaping ability and great speed.

The second school he visited was Ohio State, but he's still visiting other schools like Arizona, Arkansas and North Carolina.

If I had to guess where he'd end up, I'd say Notre Dame, which was the first school he visited. The Irish have the biggest need in their secondary, and Neal would have the best chance to start right away with them.

Expect a decision sometime after National Signing Day.

S Demetrious Cox

Cox isn't exactly a speedster, but he is a productive player who won't let you down and doesn't make the crucial mistakes. In other words, he's not very flashy, and he makes the sure tackle.

He recently visited with the Buckeyes and enjoyed his visit. He's also still looking at schools like Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. The Buckeyes really need to add another safety to the roster, and Cox would fit the bill.

He's likely going to visit as many schools as he can before making a decision. I think the Nittany Lions are the favorite in this race, but Ohio State isn't too far behind and could pull off a minor upset for the safety from Pennsylvania.

CB Armoni Reeves

Linebacker Camren Williams recently decommitted from Penn State and became a Buckeye. Many expect Reeves to do the same very soon, as he's best friends with one of the top outside linebackers in this year's class.

He's committed to the Nittany Lions for now, but don't expect that to last. Teams like Michigan and Ohio State are not too far behind. In fact, Urban Meyer and company are already visiting with the young man right now.

The Buckeyes have a relentless head coach and a guy that he went to school with on their side. I wouldn't bet against Ohio State in this one. Expect a decision possibly before National Signing Day.

WR Joel Caleb

Caleb is a strong wide receiver, runs very well and could even play the quarterback position if needed. The first school he visited in the recruiting process was Ohio State, but he's also considering schools such as Virginia Tech and recently West Virginia.

It's always nice to land a solid wide receiver, but there doesn't appear to be much hype about Caleb to Ohio State.

Anything could happen with recruiting, but you'd think there would be more talk about Caleb if Meyer and company were that interested in the wide receiver. Expect a decision on National Signing Day.
