Predictions for the Top 8 Recruits That Won't Commit Until National Signing Day
These college football recruits could choose to commit beforehand, but the first Wednesday in February is likely when they'll announce.
Announcing on national signing day is getting bigger and bigger every February. You have some recruits who just walk in, sign their LOIs and go back to class, while others wait until this day to choose their college.
These are the top eight recruits scheduled to announce their college selections on NSD—and here are my predictions for where they'll sign.
Josh Garnett, OL
1 of 8Josh Garnett is the top OG prospect in the country. Washington, Nebraska, Miami, Oregon, USC and Notre Dame have all been mentioned, among many more.
However, it looks like the final three are Stanford, Michigan and Notre Dame. His father has the makings of a Wolverine fan, so watch out...on NSD, that is.
I'm going with Michigan.
Kwon Alexander, LB
2 of 8Alexander has a final three of Alabama, Auburn and LSU, according to 247sports.com. He's in the middle of taking trips to each school and feeling everyone out.
Don't expect him to know who he's feeling the most until signing day, however.
I say Auburn, but you never know until that LOI is faxed in.
Eddie Goldman, DT
3 of 8Florida State, Alabama, Auburn and Miami are the four schools for perhaps the nation's best DT prospect, says ESPN's Dave Hooker. Goldman has just narrowed his list down to that core four from seven before.
Almost everyone around him (and the consensus in the recruiting industry) makes it seem like his recruitment won't end until NSD, which in fact it won't.
Florida State is my pick.
Tracy Howard, CB
4 of 8At 6'0" and 175 pounds, Tracy Howard has the length that many teams are looking for in corners these days. Receivers are getting bigger, so corners need to as well.
It appeared Florida and Miami were the main two, but the list of teams after Howard includes Florida State, USC, LSU, UCLA, Alabama, Notre Dame and West Virginia.
I'll call Florida State here again.
Avery Young, OT
5 of 8Young is a 6'6", 275-pound OT prospect who could play the LT position in college. He's very athletic, long and flashes some strength.
Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Florida are leading right now. We'll know who wins on NSD.
In my opinion, it will be Auburn.
Arik Armstead, DE/OT
6 of 8Here's a new addition to this list: Arik Armstead, a former USC pledge. At 6'8" and 280 pounds, Armstead can play DE, DT and even OT.
He's also a solid basketball player and could play some power forward too.
According to scout.com, Auburn, Notre Dame and Oregon are all after him, but I think Armstead ends up in Berkeley, playing for Cal.
Stefon Diggs, WR
7 of 8Stefon Diggs lists a top 11, according to Mike Farrell, that has Auburn, Florida, Maryland, Miami, Cal and Virginia Tech in it, among others. He seems to be having fun with the process and has been pretty sly about naming a leader, as he told ESPN that no one is No. 1.
He's tripped to Cal already and will head to Auburn soon. Florida could get a visit, but losing Charlie Weis has hurt its chances.
Diggs won't make a decision until after NSD. Today, I'm going to say Auburn, but he's another prospect that is tough to get a read on.
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR
8 of 8Green-Beckham isn't committing any time soon. He's really going to take this thing slow and get a feel for all of his final schools.
Couple that with the fact that his spotlight will get hotter when recruiting comes back into focus in January (i.e., the pressure will mount), and DGB will likely need more time to think. Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and Arkansas are all in the running.
I'm guessing here, as everyone else is when it comes to DGB, but today I'll guess Missouri. Keep checking, though, as my prediction changes almost daily.
