WWE News: Former WWE Star MVP Expresses Interest in Returning to the Company

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

On Dec. 2, 2010, WWE.com announced that it had “future endeavored” former United States champion MVP.

We would later learn from MVP himself that he and the company had agreed to part ways after he requested his release. MVP has since gone on to achieve his dream of competing in Japan for New Japan Pro Wrestling and is also a part of the new Wrestling Retribution Project.

MVP seems pretty content with his wrestling career at the moment, but it appears as if he hasn’t ruled out a possible WWE return down the road.

From The Miami Herald (via WrestlingInc.com):

"

There are some new guys there that show some promise. I've never had the opportunity to work with Daniel Bryan, who is one of my favorites. On the indies I loved the American Dragon. I thought he was an incredible talent. Randy Orton and I almost had a feud when I came over to Raw, and for whatever reason, they put the brakes on it. I'd like to work a program with Randy. The one match Randy and I had was awesome. We just went out there and worked. He praised me afterward.

"Some people say Randy can be a hard guy to get along with. I get along great with Randy. The one time we actually got to work on Monday Night Raw, we had a great match, and I had an awesome time. I can't forget CM Punk, my boy from FIP [Full Impact Pro Wrestling]. He is at the top of his game now. We had the opportunity to work once on the indies, and we had one match in [WWE's] ECW. I would love to work a program with him. That would be great. If I did come back, I think I would want to be exclusive to SmackDown. I think I would want to go back there and help that brand and some of the younger guys.

"

Man, reading that made me really miss MVP.

While he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I always found him to be one of the most well-rounded, underrated and underutilized talents in all of the WWE.

MVP started off his WWE career with a bang when he debuted as a high-priced free agent of sorts, one who was a natural heel and had a great gimmick that we’d never really seen before. The creative team then turned him baby face after giving him that losing streak gimmick, and he never really recovered.

He actually worked surprisingly well as a face, but he became a victim of bad booking and being overlooked in favor of other guys with less talent. Though he asked for his WWE release, I still feel like the company should have held on to him and given him an opportunity to rise to the main event scene.

MVP was a very good worker who never got to live up his potential in the WWE. Just like him, I’d love to see him back as a heel on the Smackdown brand.

While he isn’t straight up saying that he wants to return to the WWE in the near future, he certainly seems to be leaving it open as a possibility.

That’s a possibility that the WWE might want to consider exploring.

I'm now on Twitter and Formspring, so you can follow me or ask me anything wrestling-related!
