NFL Playoff Schedule 2012: Power Ranking Potential Super Bowl Matchups

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the greatest days of the year, somewhere in between your birthday and the day you learned the McRib was making a comeback.

It could be even better, however, if the right teams go up against each other. Here's a look at the remaining possible matchups and where they rank against each other.

4. The Harbaugh Bowl

Didn't we just see this in college football? LSU and Alabama battled it out during the regular season in a hard-fought, defensive game.

Then, a month later, they played in the National Championship, aka Snooze Fest Part Deux.

Now, the Ravens already beat the 49ers back in Week 12 by a score of 16-6, and while the Harbaugh brothers meeting in the Super Bowl would be a fun storyline, no one wants to see that game again.

3. The No Storyline Whatsoever Bowl

The Ravens and the Giants. No real bad blood between these two teams. No significant one-on-one matchups.

Just two teams that have been painfully inconsistent this season. This could very well be a great matchup, but it could also turn into some bad football.

There just wouldn't be a whole lot of compelling angles for this game. For some reason, this game just screams "bleh" to me.

2. The Rematch Bowl

ESPN and SportsCenter would probably pay a lot of money to have this happen, but it only comes in at No. 2 on the list.

The storylines are certainly there. Brady vs. Eli. Super Bowl XLII rematch.

Still, that Super Bowl was four years ago. Both of these teams are completely different, and the continual comparisons between this year's game and that game are going to get real old, real fast.

This would be a great game, sure, but the lead-up would be excruciating.

1. The Complete Opposites Bowl

The Patriots and the 49ers. One team is unstoppable on offense and mediocre (at best) on defense. The other has one of the most menacing defenses in the league but a lack of offensive firepower.

Unstoppable force vs. unmovable object.

Tom Brady, the elite quarterback, vs. Alex Smith, the guy who was once thought of as elite, but then was a bust, but now is making a comeback.

Can the 49ers pass rush slow down Brady? Can the Patriots defense actually keep their offense in the game?

This would be intriguing, to say the least.
