Mbappé's Rollercoaster Season 🎢

Worst Player on Each EPL Team This Season

Alex HallJun 6, 2018

With 21 games already having been played in the English Premier League season, each team has players they can point to that have played below expectations.

Even Manchester City, who currently owns the best record in all of England, has players who have disappointed so far this season. This list highlights the worst player on each team's squad as of right now.

Arsenal: Andrei Arshavin

1 of 20

Since joining Arsenal in 2009, attacking midfielder Andrei Arshavin has failed to live up to expectations, producing just 23 goals in 96 appearances.

This year, Arshavin has started just eight games for the Gunners with another nine appearances as a substitute. Over those 17 combined games on the pitch, the Russian has failed to produce a goal for his club.

Aston Villa: Nathan Delfouneso

2 of 20

Striker Nathan Delfouneso may be just 20 years of age, but when you tell your club's website that this could be your year and fail to deliver, you'll find yourself on this list.

Delfouneso was loaned out a season ago by Aston Villa, and since rejoining the club he has failed to produce a single goal during his seven appearances for his 13th-ranked squad.

Blackburn Rovers: Paul Robinson

3 of 20

Not all of Blackburn's difficult season falls at the feet of goalkeeper Paul Robinson, but he deserves a fair share of the blame.

His job is to keep balls from reaching the back of his team's net, and yet that's happened 44 times over the course of this season.

Blackburn is sitting right on the bubble of being regulated, with only Bolton Wanderers giving up more goals against this season.

Bolton Wanderers: David Ngog

4 of 20

Speaking of Bolton, the team is in danger of being regulated thanks to a lack of production from players like striker David Ngog.

Ngog came over from Liverpool this past summer for an undisclosed amount of money, and has yet to earn whatever amount that may be with just two goals in his first season with the club. If this kind of play continues from the Frenchman he and his team might find themselves out of the Premier League next season.

Chelsea: Fernando Torres

5 of 20

While Fernando Torres cannot be called the most talentless player on Chelsea, he has given the least amount of production compared to the price to get him in a blue jersey.

Chelsea obtained Torres from Liverpool just last year for a British transfer fee record of 50 million euros, and have received just three goals over his 30 appearances.

Even without production from their big ticket signing of a year ago, the club finds itself ranked fourth in the league table, but would be much better off if they could get Torres to play like the player they thought they were getting a season ago.

Everton: Tim Cahill

6 of 20

Everton may be having a better season than the likes of Bolton and Blackburn, but it's in no part due to the play of Tim Cahill offensively.

Last season, the Australian footballer went all of 2011 without a single goal, and that drought has yet to end 21 games into this season.

Cahill is one of the more important pieces to Everton's offense and has been failing to give the team any production since December of 2010.

Fulham: Andrew Johnson

7 of 20

Like Fernando Torres, Andrew Johnson is a proven talent offensively, but has seemingly lost his ability to score since joining Fulham in 2008.

Johnson is one of the team's premier strikers and yet only has three goals to his name this season, with midfielder Clint Dempsey already doubling his scoring output through 21 games. With just 13 goals during his time with Fulham, Johnson has been a bit of a disappointment.

Liverpool: Stewart Downing

8 of 20

Midfielder Stewart Downing is a recognizable name on the Liverpool squad, but his play has been less than stellar so far.

Downing has just one goal in 23 appearances for the Reds, while completing just 20 percent of his 108 crossing attempts.

Manchester City: Carlos Tevez

9 of 20

For as talented as Carlos Tevez can be on the pitch, he's hardly been worth the headache for Manchester City.

Tevez has been telling anyone who will listen he wants out of his Man City contract, and has been bellyaching for quite some time about it. The Argentine is a great talent, and if he put aside all his antics he might be one of the best players on this squad. Unfortunately it seems that's just not something Tevez can do.

Manchester United: Rio Ferdinand

10 of 20

Playing centre-back at the level Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand has for so many seasons can take a toll on a player, plain and simple.

That toll has resulted in multiple injuries for Ferdinand and he now finds himself at the age of 33, with rumors of a trip to the MLS swirling not too long ago.

It doesn't matter how talented he used to be, if the MLS thinks they can get him that means he shouldn't be playing for an elite club like Man U.

Newcastle United: Yohan Cabaye

11 of 20

Newcastle United currently sits as the sixth-best team in all of the EPL, but newly signed midfielder Yohan Cabaye hasn't been as helpful as the Magpies would have wished.

Cabaye had a terrific 2009/2010 season with his former club, Lille, scoring 13 goals and eight assists that season, but has failed to come out of his 2010/2011 season slump.

Over the past 55 games played for both Lille and Newcastle, the Frechman has just four goals and 11 assists, nowhere near his output from just two seasons ago.

Norwich City: James Vaughn

12 of 20

Norwich City has been surprising clubs this season with almost all of their strikers posting a respectable amount of goals, but young James Vaughn has been all but absent from the lineup.

Vaughn was signed last summer from Everton and has yet to start a game for his new club, appearing in just three games so far for the Canaries.

Queens Park Rangers: Adel Taarabt

13 of 20

Since Queens Park Rangers acquired Adel Taarabt from Tottenham, he has been using Carlos Tevez's game plan; attempting to muscle his way off the team.

Taarabt has told all comers, including The Daily Mail that he is unhappy being a substitute for Queens and wants off the club. The club is aggressively trying to sell the whining midfielder, to no avail so far.

Stoke City: Cameron Jerome

14 of 20

It hasn't been the ideal start for forward Cameron Jerome with his new club, Stoke City, this season.

The summer transfer acquisition has just one goal over eight games, with just 10 shots taken. Oh, and he was suspended earlier this season.

Sunderland: Dong-Won Ji

15 of 20

Attacker Dong-Won Ji has been a part of 14 games for Sunderland this season, with just two goals to his name.

When you're on the pitch 14 of the 21 games this season as an attacker with only two goals to show for your effort, that's disappointing.

Swansea City: Stephen Dobbie

16 of 20

Stephen Dobbie isn't the player he once was, but even so eight appearances without a goal is a little unexpected.

The Scottish footballer is only one year removed from an 11-goal season, and he'll need to get going soon if he wants to best that total in 2012.

Tottenham Hotspur: William Gallas

17 of 20

Tottenham defender William Gallas has appeared in just seven games for the third-place team this season, seven.

The Frenchman has been essentially absent from the Spurs lineup this season, after starting 26 games just a year ago. Tottenham currently sits as the third-ranked team in the EPL, though, so perhaps Gallas isn't a necessary part of this team.

West Bromwich Albion: Youssuf Mulumbu

18 of 20

West Bromich did its best job to try and keep its talent and move up in the rankings, and yet that hasn't happened. Part of the reason being that their once proud midfielder has been a disappointment.

Just one goal in 18 games so far, Mulumbu has been unable to help his team be competitive, as West Brom sits as the 15th-ranked club in the table.

Wigan Athletic: Ali Al-Habsi

19 of 20

Wigan Athletic is dead last in the standings, giving up the second-most goals against so far this season. That means goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi has failed to give his team a chance to win in most matches.

Chris Kirkland has been injured most of the season for Wigan, and Al-Habsi has stepped in on 11 occasions with little success in the net. Al-Habsi is simply the fall guy for Wigan, however, as there's a fair share of blame to spread around the club for this porous season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Roger Johnson

20 of 20

As bad as Wigan has had it this season, Wolverhampton has had its fair share of struggles.

Roger Johnson is the captain of this team and as such should take the brunt of the blame for the 30 goals against and just two rankings away from being regulated. Johnson has yet to live up to his seven million euro transfer last summer.
