Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Armstead Brothers Down to Irish and Auburn
College football recruiting is a tricky process. Players commit to decommit, only to commit again. And the cycle continues.
The latest recruiting news comes from the Armstead brothers. We were expecting a decision today. Now they have put the process on hold and are not expected to decide until at least national signing day.
Armond Armstead is a transfer who played defensive end for three years with the USC Trojans. He finished the 2010 season with 43 tackles, three sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss.
Arik Armstead is one of the top-rated offensive linemen in this year's class, but would like to play on the defensive side of the ball in college.
While Armond only has one year of eligibility left, the goal for the brothers is to play together for that one season.
So where will they end up?
Arik has offers from nearly every top school in the country, but is most interested in Alabama, Auburn, California, Notre Dame and Oregon, although Auburn and Notre Dame appear to be the favorites.
Both are top programs and could use help on the defensive line. The Armstead brothers would likely have a shot to play quality minutes next season and could make a quick impact on either one of these teams.
Another possibility for the brothers is California, as they are both from the area. The Golden Bears have put together a fantastic recruiting class and appear to be on the rise in the weak Pac-12.
Although the decision may have been delayed for a couple more weeks, you can expect it to come down to one of those three schools. And whichever one lands these two solid players will be that much closer to piecing together a great defensive line.
