National Signing Day 2012: Predicting Where Top Uncommitted Recruits Will Land

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

National Signing Day is rapidly creeping up, and trying to predict where the best recruits in the country will play football is harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

Still, that won't prevent anyone trying because the recruiting world of college football is full of speculation, and it's fun to give your two cents on where a player is best suited.

Although, just because a star recruit fits with one program better than the other, it doesn't necessarily mean he'll choose the best fit.

With that said, here are my top three uncommitted recruits and where I see them playing out their college football careers.

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR

The nation's top recruit is giving no hints as to where he might end up, but he was kind enough to narrow his choices down to a top five

Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas are the schools Green-Beckham is considering, and wherever he ends up he will be an immediate impact.

Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, Green-Beckham is bound to be star upon his arrival to the college level. His only visit has been to Texas, but Rivals reports he will check out Arkansas this weekend.

My prediction on Green-Beckham is that he will take his talents and play for Alabama. Joining an already-solid recruiting class, Green-Beckham would be the star of that offense, which is in dire need of one.

With Trent Richardson off to the NFL, the Crimson Tide need an explosive playmaker, which is exactly what Green-Beckham is. A.J. McCarron showed he could throw the ball well, and with a big target like Green-Beckham, he'll continue to improve.

It sure doesn't hurt that they just won the BCS title either.

Arik Armstead, DE

After decommitting from USC, there was a mad dash to land Armstead, who is a versatile lineman with skills to succeed on offense or defense.

Armstead recently took to Twitter to share what his top schools are, and it's a very spread-out list.

Cal, Oregon, Notre Dame and Auburn are his top four, but Whitney Blaine of Scout.com reports the departure of Tosh Lupoi to Washington meant Cal is no longer in contention for Armstead.

In that report, Blaine also states that "the high-profile nature of the Gunnel Kiel news impressed Arik."

Listed at 6'8", 280 pounds, Armstead is only going to get bigger and stronger once he hits a college workout routine. The school he picks will have the ultimate say on whether he plays defense or offense, but he's very skilled at both, so it's a win-win.

Defense is probably his best bet, but then again, the coaches are likely to base their decision off of team needs. Armstead can make an impact at either position, which is what makes him so special.

My prediction is that he lands with Notre Dame now that it's been reported Cal is dropped from his list. Lupoi will try to bring him to Washington, but the Fighting Irish's big splash of Kiel will persuade Armstead to play for a national powerhouse.

Stefon Diggs, ATH

According to Derek Tyson of ESPN, Diggs will wait until after National Signing Day to choose from a host of different schools.

The talented athlete has no leader, and probably won't share who is at the top of his long list. He might narrow this down after taking some visits, but then again, nobody really knows what's going through the mind of Diggs.

Tyson mentions that Florida was thought to be the leader, but since Charlie Weis left, it threw things off. In addition to Florida, the other schools on Diggs' list are Notre Dame, Cal, Auburn, USC, Maryland, Ohio State and Virginia.

Rivals reports that Diggs has visited Auburn and Cal, and the Huntsville Times reports that Diggs said his best visit yet was with the Tigers. Of course, with plenty of time to decide, Diggs will pencil in more visits to other schools.

Diggs has the skills to play running back or wide receiver, and wherever he ends up, he's going to make an impact right away, especially in the return game. All the schools on his list are in dire need of an explosive playmaker, so Diggs will get tons of attention once he arrives on campus.

My prediction is that Diggs will pick Ohio State and play for Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes offense was putrid last season and they desperately need a huge spark, which is s something Diggs can definitely provide.

With DeVier Posey and Dan Herron leaving, the Buckeyes will need someone to help Braxton Miller out on offense. Since Meyer has had great success with players similar to Diggs' style, it makes sense that he would go play for him.

Diggs will be like Percy Harvin and De'Anthony Thomas, making big plays to help put his team back on the map.
