Breaking Down the New Top 10 College Recruits in the Rivals Final 250
The college football playing season is officially over, which means the main focus should now be on the recruiting process. Which teams will land some of the country's top prospects and which top players will make an immediate impact on their new teams? Those are just some of the questions we will be asking for the next couple of months.
While everybody is ranking the top prospects in the country and trying to predict where they will end up, Rivals.com just released its final top 250 players. The list includes the top 250 players and lists them in order of the best.
As we get closer and closer to National Signing Day, this list could become very important to fans as they try and keep track of which top players will end up on their team.
Here is a breakdown of each player in the Rivals.com Top 250.
10. QB Jameis Winston
1 of 10Jameis Winston is on this list I'm assuming mainly because of his potential. He is your typical dual-threat quarterback. He of course can kill you with his legs and has the strong arm, but needs to work on his accuracy to become more respected as a quarterback.
Regardless, Winston is a great athlete and is a extremely valuable weapon to have on the offensive side of the ball. He makes solid decisions with the football, but needs to develop more patience in the pocket before taking off to run. The potential is there for him to be a great college player.
He gave a verbal commitment to Florida State, but is still considering offers from Alabama and Stanford, among others.
9. DE Noah Spence
2 of 10You'll see on this list that there are a lot of defensive ends. Just because Noah Spence is the first to be mentioned doesn't mean that he is short of talent. The thing that really sticks out with Spence is his quickness of the ball and how fast he gets in the backfield. He's one of those players that the offense has to know where he is on the field at all times.
Spence can make plays all over the field and is very athletic, but he will be quickly known for getting to the quarterback and causing relentless pressure.
As you can see in the picture, Spence ended up going with the Ohio State Buckeyes when they got Urban Meyer as their head coach.
8. WR Stefon Diggs
3 of 10Diggs is a player that may lack size at 6'0", 185 pounds, but he doesn't lack the confidence. Speed is another thing that one of the top wide receivers has as he runs the 40 in about 4.4 seconds. That alone makes him an attractive prospect. You get this guy in the open field, and there's a good chance he is taking it the distance. He's a play-maker.
He's extremely athletic and will really help stretch the field for whichever team he ends up with, making it a lot easier for his teammates.
Diggs is still trying to decide between schools like Auburn, California and Florida, among others.
7. DT Eddie Goldman
4 of 10Goldman is a defensive tackle that would instantly impact any defensive line with his size. You talk about a run-stopper, it's this guy right here at 6'4", 315 pounds. Put Goldman in the center of your defensive line, and he'll clog up the running lanes and make it a frustrating day for opposing running backs.
Despite his size, he is quick for his size and can get a solid pass rush going as well. His potential is endless, and he will really make things a lot easier for the players around him wherever he ends up.
He's currently uncommitted and is still considering Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Miami.
6. DE Jonathan Bullard
5 of 10Another defensive end on this list really isn't that surprising, considering this is a deep class at that position. Bullard is as strong as they come and plays with high intensity and a motor that never stops. He's good coming off the ball, is great at stopping the run and has a bull rush that can get him in the backfield in a hurry and make things difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
He's a very physical player and will likely see playing time early in his freshman season.
After receiving several offers from top schools, Bullard committed to the Florida Gators.
5. RB Johnathan Gray
6 of 10This ranking may be a little high, not because Gray isn't a talented running back. It's just that he may not even be the top back in this year's class.
Regardless, Gray is a great athlete that has a ridiculous combination of power and speed. It's really not fair to have a player who is 5'10", 210 pounds and be able to run the 40 in 4.5 seconds. He isn't the type of back that will waste energy running to the sidelines; he finds the hole and hits it. He has great vision of the field and will be a very productive runner at the college level.
After receiving offers from a few quality schools, Gray will play his ball at Texas.
4. S Shaq Thompson
7 of 10Thompson is one of the elite athletes in this class and appears to be a safety that could see a lot of playing time his freshman year. He has great size at 6'2", 210 pounds and is capable of playing the run just as well as the pass. He has solid ball skills and great instincts as well, which make him capable of playing anywhere in the secondary.
Thompson is a great prospect, and although he committed to California, he may have a change of heart with defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi leaving for Washington. This would be another big blow to the Golden Bears if the nation's top safety prospect leaves for another program.
3. DE Mario Edwards
8 of 10If there's a defensive end that you want in this year's class, it's Mario Edwards. And there are a lot of quality defensive ends in this year's class, (as you could see in the list before this slide), but none are as complete as Edwards is right now at this level.
He's a big guy at 6'4", 297 pounds, but you wouldn't know it with as quick as he gets off the ball. Edwards has great strength and a bunch of different moves he uses on offensive linemen to get to the quarterback. That alone puts him ahead of so many other defensive ends at his age. He plays with a motor that never quits and is great at stopping the run.
Edwards originally committed to Florida State, but is still exploring other options including, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and possibly Alabama.
2. OT D.J. Humphries
9 of 10Humpries is the only offensive lineman in the top 10 and that says a lot about how complete of a player this kid is. First, he's 6'6", 275 pounds and runs the 40 in just over five seconds. He's a flat out athlete and hands down the best offensive lineman in this years class. He uses his hands very well and has great footwork.
He's also versatile to where he can play either tackle position.
After having several offers on the table, Humpries committed to the Florida Gators. You can expect him to make an immediate impact on that offensive line next season.
1. WR Dorial Green-Beckham
10 of 10You have to agree with with Green-Beckham being in the No. 1 spot, because he simply has the talent to start right away for whichever team he decides to pick. A wide receiver that's 6'6", 220 pounds, instantly becomes an attractive option as he has a size advantage over nearly every defensive player on the field. It doesn't matter who is playing quarterback, just throw the ball up there and this beast will go and get it.
He's great running after the catch and is the ultimate red zone target and a solid deep threat.
Everybody is eager to see where the No. 1 prospect ends up. He has narrowed his list down to Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Arkansas.
