WWE RAW: 5 Reasons Why We're Currently Seeing the Best of RAW in Months
If you really want to, you could find a lot wrong with Monday Night RAW too. It's all a matter of perspectives after all.
While it sure isn't up to the mark of retaining it's former glory, as a fan I've been highly entertained for the past few weeks (ever since January 2nd I guess).
If we look past the still-crappy divas matches and a few horrible segments thrown here and there, we're actually getting some quality shows.
There's one thing that WWE has implemented lately and it's that they've brought the "What next?" factor in their storylines, something that was seriously lacking over the past few months. They're getting the audience (ones who still watch anyway) to tune in every week, just because they have some burning questions left unanswered.
As a fan, that's what you'd want, right?
5. R-Truth's Antics: Okay What Me!
1 of 5It's a shame how R-Truth has been overshadowed over the past few weeks by the upcoming reasons, because he's put on some entertaining segments. (Case in point: Truth and Barrett, and a small part of the segment with Ricardo Rodriguez.)
Many believed that R-Truth underwent one of the best makeovers of his life (after the Crunk'd R-Truth of course, wasn't that golden?), and I was one of those believers. Then many believed turning him face would squash his momentum and I was one of those too.
But he's managed to keep up his momentum and relevancy as face too, and while there's still a lot to see about his character, he's keeping us entertained and not wanting to switch the channel.
Now that he has covered Disneyland, where do you think he's going next? I don't even know if we should keep it PG.
4. Funkasaurus: Should I Get Heeeeem?
2 of 5Big Bad Brodus Clay has now embraced the joke. And the fans love it.
While the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw Brodus dance his way into the WWE last week was that this was a set up for a heel run (which is explained here), I'm actually starting to disagree with myself now (not an uncommon occurrence I assure you).
A week into Brodus Clay's debut, and we already have a dozen signs in the crowd with the words "Somebody Call My Momma!" I guess Funkasauras is here to stay and no one's complaining.
So that's two entertaining segments (R-Truth and Clay) that actually help make up a great show.
3. Will John Cena Embrace the Hate?
3 of 5The most discussed topic in the IWC, even surpassing the topic of Michael Cole's awesomeness, is the topic centering around a John Cena heel turn.
While the profit he makes and the ratings he draws may ensure WWE never turns him heel, the fact that WWE Creative is actually toying with the idea every week is what constitutes compelling television.
They're not simply ignoring the resounding "Cena Sucks!" chants - they're embracing the hate.
This has been a well-crafted story line so far, and really makes the audience tune in each week to see how far Cena's tolerance will be pushed.
That, however, doesn't mean I'd like to see Zack Ryder change tires. I would rather watch John Cena beat the hell out of Jack Swagger and make me question his stoic babyface gimmick.
2. CM Punk-Dolph Ziggler-John Laurinaitus: I'm the Best in the World!
4 of 5One thing that makes me REALLY happy is that CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler are in main events and consequently, relevant. The fact that every RAW promises a Ziggler or a Punk promo or even a Ziggler or a Punk wrestling match is what will make fans tune in every week.
While Ziggler may not be the best in mic skills yet, he is fairly decent and both have amazing wrestling abilities which result in great matches every week on RAW.
I hated the fact that Punk wasn't talking much these days, and then they went out and gave that segment with Johnny Ace at the end of this week's show. That CM Punk is the CM Punk that made Chicago go wild at MITB - the rude, heelish and rebellious best wrestler in the world. That is why CM Punk shouldn't be groomed as a John Cena 2.0 and rather let him be CM Punk.
I don't know why Punk isn't drawing ratings in main events, but as a fan I'd rather watch him in main events (speaking or wrestling) rather than anyone else in the roster.
1. Chris Jericho: *switches on Jacket*
5 of 5The top reason to watch RAW each week is definitely Chris Jericho. How many of you tune in to RAW wondering whether Chris Jericho will speak today. Or even, what will he do now?
This ominous question hovering over all the fans is what makes the disappointment when he trolls the Universe even deeper. For a while Jericho made us believe that when he was tagged in, he would actually wrestle.
Y2J is portraying a very eccentric gimmick. Not only did he jump around in happiness after being tagged, he left with a smile. He doesn't even acknowledge that he's actually trolling the fans and keeps putting on that plastic wannabe-babyface gimmick.
This is something different and something unique. We can only wait and watch his character and gimmick gradually unfold.
