UFC on FX: Power Ranking Every Main Card Bout
The debut of the UFC on FX is filled with three exciting fights and a main event that’s sure to bring fight fans to their feet.
Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller will main event the free card, and both men are on a hunt to challenge Frankie Edgar for his lightweight championship, and considering that both of these great fighters are coming off of a loss, both fighters should go for broke.
That and the fact that Pat Barry is on the card is enough to bring excitement to every fight fan. These are the best fights on the card.
4. Mike Easton vs. Jared Papazian
1 of 4Can Mike Easton outdo his second-round TKO over Byron Bloodworth?
Easton already holds a win over Ultimate Fighter winner John Dodson, and he trains with the best in the division. As you can see from the video, Easton trains with Dominick Cruz, and you know what they say about iron sharpening iron.
For Easton to reach Cruz’s status, though, he’ll have to beat newcomer Jared Papazian and continue to climb the ranks in the bantamweight division.
Papazian has a professional record of 14-6 and is riding a four-fight win streak in King of the Cage. This should make for a nice 135-pound clash between two fighters that are looking to make a name for themselves.
3. Duane Ludwig vs. Josh Neer
2 of 4Duane Ludwig is riding high off of his victory over Amir Sadollah where he put on a Muay Thai clinic, and Josh Neer is coming off a victory over Keith Wisniewski that resulted in a doctor’s stoppage.
Neer’s victory over Wisniewski showed a more brutal side to his game, as he sliced and diced Wisniewski’s face with on point elbows strikes. This new vicious side of Neer’s striking makes this fight with Ludwig that much more exciting.
Expect a war on the feet between two veteran strikers. Ludwig will look to knock Neer out, while Neer should immolate the same game plan he had against Wisniewski.
This should make for a bloody stand-up battle.
2. Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft
3 of 4Even though both of these fighters could justifiably be named stepping stones, it’s still going to be a great fight to watch.
Christian Morecraft has lost two of his last three fights, with his only win coming against Sean McCorkle. Not a very impressive resume, and as for Pat Barry, he has to have the worst luck in the business.
Barry’s coming off of a loss to Stefan Struve after suffering a heart-breaking loss to Cheick Kongo, where he had Kongo battered but not beaten. Barry might not win most of his fights, but his fights are exciting to say the least, and that’s the main reason why he still has a job in the UFC.
Expect these two heavyweights to go to war like there’s no tomorrow, because there just might not be a tomorrow in the company for the loser.
1. Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller
4 of 4This will be Melvin Guillard’s toughest fight in his career.
Guillard has fought a who’s who in the lightweight division, but his toughest test could very well come against Jim Miller.
Miller is a scrappy fighter that was well on his way to fighting Frankie Edgar for the championship until he ran across a reinvigorated Ben Henderson.
After losing to Gray Maynard, Miller won seven fights in a row before facing Henderson and impressed along the way. Miller comes at his opponents no slower than 100 miles per hour, and Guillard won’t back down from Miller’s unrelenting pressure.
Guillard was on a five-fight win streak before getting careless against Joe Lauzon and being tapped out in the first minute of the fight.
Both fighters are aggressive and looking to re-establish themselves as one of the elite of the division, and that’s a good recipe for fight of the night.
