Dwyane Wade Celebrates 30th Birthday with $230,000 2012 McLaren MP4-12C
The fact that Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade is going to be styling and profiling in a $230,000 2012 McLaren MP4-12C isn't particularly surprising, however, the manner in which he received it certainly is.
According to TMZ, Wade received the luxury vehicle for his 30th birthday this weekend, and he got it for free as a gift from a local dealership. On top of that, the car was airlifted onto a platform in the middle of a pool at the hotel where Wade and his closest friends, including LeBron James and Chris Bosh, were celebrating.
I'm not going to pretend like that isn't the coolest thing I've ever heard, but I will say that there are more pressing issues to worry about in the wake of D-Wade's 30th birthday. There have been plenty of players who have performed at a high level past the age of 30, but it can certainly be an age where a decline in skills begins.
It's tough to say whether that is the case for Wade, but that is because he has been sidelined for part of the season with various injuries. Wade missed three games due to a bruised foot and a strained calf, but he is now out indefinitely after spraining his ankle against the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.
Wade has often battled nagging injuries throughout his career so this is nothing new, but the fact that he has suffered three completely different injuries this early in the season has to be disconcerting for Heat fans. Perhaps it's no coincidence that it has happened just as he has turned 30.
When Wade re-signed and James and Bosh were brought in last season ,there was talk of multiple titles for the triumvirate known as "Miami Thrice." The Heat had a golden opportunity last season, but were foiled by a hungry Dallas Mavericks squad in the finals.
Although the Heat fell short of their ultimate goal, most didn't think it was a big deal since Wade, James and Bosh would all have plenty of chances in the future. The fact of the matter is, though, that Wade is 30 and injury prone, so it's fair to ask how much time he truly has left.
There's no question that Wade's recent injury woes could be an aberration, but it isn't as if he has been durable throughout his career. It's impossible to say how many quality seasons Wade has left at this point, but if injuries continue to mount then it could be significantly less than most anticipated.
If the Heat don't find a way to win a championship with Wade in the fold then who's to say that they can do it with only James and Bosh? I think that amid all the excitement of Wade, James and Bosh uniting, we all kind of forgot that Wade isn't a young kid anymore.
For the sake of Wade and the league as a whole I hope that he can overcome this continuous string of injuries. If not, though, he had better enjoy receiving luxury cars for free while he still can because he may not be relevant for much longer.
