Ohio State Football Recruiting: Incoming Players Who Will Make Immediate Impact
National Signing Day is only two weeks away, but the Ohio State Buckeyes, with 20 current commitments, are already in pretty good shape.
Rivals ranks the Buckeyes' current recruiting class as No. 5 in the nation, and there are plenty of young players in this class ready to step in right away.
Here's a look at three.
Noah Spence, DE
Ohio State has four incoming defensive ends in Rivals' Top 100, but Spence stands out because he is an absolute man-child. There's honestly no other way to put it.
This kid out of Harrisburg, Penn. is huge at 6'4", 245 pounds, but his mammoth size doesn't slow him down. His amazing quickness off the snap allows to get to the quarterback with ease. He's the best pass rusher in this year's prospect class.
And he showed that during the Under Armour Game.
Against the nation's top recruits, Spence recorded seven tackles. Three of those were for sacks and the other four were for a loss. He also added a forced fumbled. In short, he was unstoppable.
Spence is the No. 9 prospect in the country according to Rivals, and there's no doubt he will immediately help Ohio State's pass rush, which ranked 40th in sack percentage this season.
Tommy Schutt, DT
Schutt is the 52nd best prospect in the country, according to Rivals.
The 6'3", 305-pound DT is extremely strong, but he also pairs that with quick feet and the ability to go around bigger offensive linemen.
He's going to be huge in stopping the run for the Buckeyes, but he also proved in high school (14 sacks) that he can get to the quarterback. Ohio State was cut up by the run a few times this year, and Schutt is gong to immediately improve that unit.
Pairing Spence with Schutt and top defensive-end recruit Adolphus Washington is going to be downright scary for Big Ten offensive linemen.
Bri'onte Dunn, RB
Dan Herron is out, and it's probable that Carlos Hyde will step in as the starter, but he can't carry the load by himself.
Ohio State has a few other backs, but incoming freshman Bri'onte Dunn could quickly step into the backup role.
Dunn, at 6'1", 222 pounds, is blessed with terrific power and vision. He has the potential to eventually serve as a bruising, every-down back, but right now, has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and could make for a solid third-down back.
The Buckeyes struggled on offense at times this season and will be looking for all the offensive weapons they can find. Dunn will provide that.
