UFC 142 Results: 3 Fights for Jose Aldo to Take Next
With few significant challenges left at 145 pounds, Aldo must now begin to make some decisions. Though a move to lightweight may still be a win or two away, it certainly has to be weighing on the Brazilian champion's mind.
In addition to a lightweight bout that might make sense should Aldo decide to switch weight divisions, here are the remaining threats to the 145-pound champion's current title.
Chan Sung Jung
1 of 3The quickness in which Chan Sung Jung defeated Mark Hominick may have led many to consider the win a fluke. However, "The Korean Zombie" has generated quite the fan following and now has to be considered one of the top contenders in the 145-pound division.
Jung is probably another win away from being truly deserving of a title shot, but the UFC may want to capitalize on his recent explosion in popularity.
In all likelihood, Aldo would have his way with Jung, but that doesn't mean it would be a fight fans wouldn't want to see.
Frankie Edgar-Benson Henderson Winner
2 of 3It might be reactionary to say that it is time for Aldo to move to lightweight, but the time is closing in.
Unlike Aldo, though, Frankie Edgar has plenty of challengers remaining at lightweight. Unless he is willing to take a non-title fight in the division, Aldo's move to 155 pounds may come down to timing.
A fight against the winner of Edgar's bout with Benson Henderson seems unlikely, but it is certainly a possibility for Aldo if he wants to pitch the idea to the UFC brass.
Hatsu Hioki-Bart Palaszewski Winner
3 of 3With Aldo's bout against Chad Mendes now in the books, a fight between Hatsu Hioki and Bart Palaszewski is now the biggest fight currently scheduled in the featherweight division.
While Hioki may not have impressed anyone with his controversial victory over George Roop in his UFC debut, the Japanese featherweight is one of the last true contenders remaining that Aldo hasn't yet faced.
Meanwhile, Palaszewski is coming off of an impressive victory over Tyson Griffin in his 145-pound debut. A win over Hioki would likely make Palaszewski deserving of a shot at the belt.
