Floyd Mayweather: Pac-Man's Trainer Freddie Roach Points to Fight on Horizon

Ryan RudnanskyJan 12, 2012

The boxing world has been looking for signs of a potential superfight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao for years now.

Regardless of whose camp is to blame, it's fair to say we've all been seriously let down.

But after Mayweather's jail sentence was pushed back to June on Jan. 6, there are some encouraging signs that the top two boxers in the world will finally touch gloves.

After Mayweather challenged Pacquiao multiple times via Twitter, the boxing world received some welcome words from Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach on 790 the Zone in Atlanta on Thursday.

In short, Roach isn't guaranteeing anything, but Pacquiao's camp is considering a fight.

Said Roach, via SportsRadioInterviews.com:

"

Everywhere I go in the world people say make that fight happen. We’re doing the best we can to make it happen and boxing needs a fight like that right now.

"

Roach also said that there are two dates out there right now in May or June being considered. He added that both camps had actually received an offer of $100 million apiece in Dubai, but Mayweather wanted the fight in Las Vegas, instead. He pointed to Dallas as a potential site for what would be the most anticipated fight in years.

Who knows how this will shake out. What we do know now is that both camps want this fight to happen at the same time, and that's the most progress we've seen up until this point.

The obstacle now appears to be the fight date and finding a venue where they could make the most money.

Will Mayweather and Pacquiao finally fight?

For the first time in years I have hope.
