Tiger Woods Will Make Massive Statement with a Win at Pebble Beach

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Tiger Woods is ready to make the PGA take notice as he will begin his season with a victory at the Pebble Beach Pro Am.

The former world No. 1 announced that this tournament would be his first event of the 2012 PGA season. Here is Woods, as quoted by Fox Sports:

"

I'm excited to start my PGA season at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. I'm looking forward to playing in this event.

I haven't been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble.

Tiger has not played in this event since 2002.

Woods has struggled to find his winning ways since his little off-the-course fiasco derailed his career.

However, he has a solid history at Pebble Beach, and he has made big strides in recapturing his dominant stroke.

Tiger's Improvements

After sinking to a low of No. 58 in the world, Woods finished third in last November's Australian Open. He then pieced together a solid Presidents Cup and capped off his return with his first victory in 107 events while playing in the Chevron World Challenge.

During this run, Tiger has still struggled with his putting at times, but his swing has been fluid and grooved. He has been hitting fairways and greens, and has finally gotten to a spot where he can stroke the ball without getting locked in his head.

He will now be able to parlay this confidence on a course where he has had some of his greatest moments.

Success at Pebble Beach

In 2000 Woods won this event in dramatic fashion. He was seven shots behind with seven holes to play. He then eagled from the fairway on No. 15 and birdied two of the last three to pass Matt Gogel, who wilted under the pressure of a hard-charging Tiger.

Later that season, Woods put on one of the greatest performances golf has ever seen. Tiger won the US Open at Pebble Beach by 15 strokes. He was the only player to finish that tournament under par.

His last time at Pebble Beach, Woods tied for fourth in the 2010 US Open. That was one of his strongest tournaments since his off-the-course issues.

Tiger's Statement

Woods is primed to show off his found game on a course he knows and is well-suited to dominate. He is not going to just play well, but he will pick up the victory.

This is going to send a statement to the rest of the PGA and the young guns who were eager to see the dawn of their own era that Tiger is not ready to go quietly into that good night.

The rest of the PGA will now be challenged to elevate their game or crumble, like so many competitors have before them, while trying to challenge Tiger.
