Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Floyd Forcing Manny to Operate on His Schedule
Floyd Mayweather's jail sentence has been pushed back to June. Mayweather is seizing the opportunity to turn the tables on Manny Pacquiao. It has appeared, that Pac-Man was the fighter chasing Mayweather for a fight, but now it is Floyd who seems to be on the hunt.
He vehemently called Manny out with this tweet earlier this week:
""Manny Pacquiao I'm calling you out let's fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see."
"
He followed that tweet up with this even more aggressive tweet:
""My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in. Step up Punk."
"
Now Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, is the one playing hard to get. He says the Pacquiao camp is discussing Pac-Man's next opponent. According to this report, none of the fighters listed are named Floyd Mayweather.
We all know these words can amount to nothing more than posturing. The reality is, neither fighter or promotional team can make the same kind of money fighting anyone else. So if money talks, as it usually does, especially in boxing, these two will collide.
There are reasons Mayweather has amped up his willingness to fight Pac-Man. Here are a few:
Mayweather's Age
Floyd is a lot of things, but stupid as it relates to boxing and the business of the sport, isn't one of them. He is as in tune with his own body and matchups of any fighter I've ever seen. He knows he still has the physical ability, but he also knows a falloff isn't far away.
Pacquiao's Age and Declining Performances
Floyd has watched Manny in his past three or four fights intently. He takes him very seriously as an opponent. Mayweather is a student of the sport, and that thought process and analysis has him sure he will dominate Pacquiao.
Despite what he says, he hasn't always been sure of that. Something he's seen has him positive he'll win.
Money and Life Situations
Because Mayweather isn't as genius outside of the boxing world, he finds himself in a few predicaments that threaten his lifestyle. In order to maintain that, he must continue to earn. What better way to do that than to take on what may amount to the biggest payday in boxing history?
Add those factors up, and you get Floyd's willingness to fight.
