4 Reasons Andre Iguodala Will Be an All-Star This Year for Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers are off to their best start in over a decade. The last time the Sixers got off to this hot of a start, they became Eastern Conference champions.
Now while I won't crown this Sixers team champs of anything yet, you have to be pleased with the way they have played. Sure, they haven't played any "great" teams but they sure haven't played down to the competition. That's what makes you a successful team. You beat the teams you're supposed to beat.
And the Sixers aren't just beating teams; they are destroying them.
One main factor of the team's success has to be the continued improvement and leadership shown by Andre Iguodala. Sure Jrue Holiday and Spencer Hawes are off to scorching starts as well, but I think we all know that this team goes through Iggy.
Time will only tell what will happen to the Sixers down the road, but one thing is for sure: If Iguodala keeps it up, he could finally make his first All-Star appearance. Here's why.
Statistics
1 of 4Stats: 14 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.6 SPG, 1.0 BPG
Sure the numbers are not eye-popping, but let's face it: To be an All-Star in this league you have to put up decent numbers.
While, right now, these numbers may not get Iguodala in, I am expecting further improvement of these numbers, especially with more assists and points.
Iggy has reached double figures in points in all but two games thus far and has recorded 20 and 14 in his last two games respectively.
Relevance
2 of 4NBA fans, admit it: The NBA All-Star Game is a popular vote contest. There are snubs every year that deserve to make it, but instead a washed-up superstar is picked for one last hurrah.
This is one thing that has cost the Sixers money and probably talent the last decade. People around the NBA probably forgot that the Sixers were still in Philadelphia.
Now with a valiant effort in last year's playoffs and a great start this season, the Sixers can become relevant again, and I think they already are.
Once back on the map, people start to tune into the teams. People will start to notice how good Iggy, Holiday, Young and Company are.
Winning Back in Philly
3 of 4It has taken a few years for this young Sixers team to gel and come together as a group but I think it's paying off.
With Iguodala and Jrue Holiday leading this team, the Sixers have the core group of players to be contenders for years.
Another star player might be needed for a championship run, but with how young and balanced the Sixers are, there is no reason not to see them in the middle of the Eastern Conference playoffs year in and year out.
With winning comes relevance again. With relevance comes a better understanding of this team by the fans of the entire league.
General Management
4 of 4You can bet that the 76ers' new ownership group might have something to do with Andre Iguodala making the All-Star Game as well.
Adam Aron, Joshua Harris and the entire ownership group has brought something back to the city that has been missing for years: passion.
Through the first few games this season, Aron has promised a better entertainment value for fans. And the fans have responded by showing up to the Wells Fargo Center. Attendance is definitely up and will only improve as long as the Sixers keep winning.
I'm pretty sure Aron also has a gimmick or two up his sleeve as well to get fans to vote for their players.
