Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Reds Would Be Wise to Ignore Offers for Luis Suarez
Since joining Liverpool from Ajax last season, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has been embroiled in his fair share of controversy. Because of that, there is talk that there may be clubs lining up to make a big transfer offer, but the Reds should pay them no mind.
According to Football Talk, Spanish power Real Madrid is readying for a $30 million bid. While that may seem like an enticing number, the young forward has too much potential to give up on him now. He certainly has found ways to get into trouble, though.
It all started with a one-game suspension and a fine for making an obscene gesture toward some fans. That certainly hasn't been the biggest of Suarez's transgressions at Liverpool, though, as he is currently serving an eight-game suspension for allegedly racially abusing Manchester United's Patrick Evra.

Suarez has denied the claims and both the team and its fans have stood behind him, but it's easy to see why the Reds might entertain thoughts of moving Suarez. At the same time, however, Suarez is an immense talent, and he is the type of player that can help Liverpool compete with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City.
It's no surprise that Real Madrid may try to strong arm its way into nabbing Suarez, but Liverpool needs to put up a resistance. The report says that Liverpool isn't going to consider moving Suarez unless he requests a transfer, and that's the way it should be.
Liverpool has already gone to all this trouble to support and protect Suarez, so what would be the use in giving up on him now? I subscribe to the "three-strikes-and-you're-out" rule. If Suarez gets involved in another incident upon his return, then I can see merit in moving him, but he deserves a chance to prove that he has matured.
As much as you would like to have only high-character players on your football club, there are times when talent has to trump everything. Is Suarez perfect? No, far from it actually, but he has the potential to soon be one of the very best players in the Premier League if he isn't already.
Liverpool has to maintain its top-flight players if it wants to continue to compete in the EPL, not let them go. You have to credit Real Madrid for seeing an opportunity and looking to pounce on it, but the Reds have to stand firm and resist the urge to transfer Suarez.
