Edge to Be Youngest Member of WWE Hall of Fame Ever Inducted at 39 Years Old
On Monday's Raw SupersShow, we got the first two announcements for the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame class. The first was the Four Horsemen, which included an already-inducted Ric Flair along with Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, JJ Dillon and Barry Windham.
The other name announced was none other than the Rated R Superstar Edge.
Real name Adam Copeland, Edge will be the youngest member of the Hall of Fame, as he will only be 39 years old when he accepts the honor.
Eddie Guerrero passed away at 38, but WWE is considering Edge the youngest member ever inducted. I guess they are going by "youngest live induction."
This comes as no surprise, as Edge has had an amazing career in WWE, and even though it was cut short, it was already worthy of a Hall of Fame induction.
It is kind of funny to sit here and write this because almost exactly two years ago I wrote an article titled Is Edge Hall of Fame Bound?Ā It seems that he was on his way there already.
Edge ended up having to retire from the business after finding out his spine had narrowed, and he could no longer safely compete without risk of paralysis or worse.
His career ended in one of the most prolific ways I can think of as he wrestled his final televised match at WrestleMania, where he retained his World Title against Alberto Del Rio.
Despite not being able to go out on his own terms, this was a fitting ending to an amazing career.
Edge has held a total of 32 titles throughout his incredible career in WWE:
- 7 World Heavyweight Titles
- 4 WWE Titles
- 5 WWE Intercontinental Titles
- 1 WWE United States Title
- 14 Tag Teams Titles
This is all added to the fact that he won the first Money in the Bank match, a second MITB briefcase by defeating Mr Kennedy, King of the Ring, The Royal Rumble, became the 14th Triple Crown winner and won two Slammy awards.
He helped to innovate the TLC match, and he has had some of the best Ladder, Cage and Hell in a Cell matches in WWE history.
This guy has done it all, and he is totally deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame. Edge himself may not feel he is ready to be given this honor, but many fans would argue that he deserves every bit of it.
Chances are good that Christian will be the man to induct his longtime friend into the Hall. I look forward to seeing Edge accept this honor as well as tell some great stories during his speech.
What do you think of Edge being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year?
