Ronald Darby Decommits from Notre Dame: 3 Other Recruits the Irish Could Lose
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish landed one of the top players in the country in cornerback Ronald Darby. He's rated as the No.1 corner on many recruiting sites and looked like he would be a big pickup for a secondary that will have many holes after this season.
Now, Darby has decided to decommit, according to scout.com, and is back out on the market.
The reality is that the Irish aren't exactly the same elite program they were several years ago. So there are many other players the Irish may lose out on.
Here are a few.
CB Tee Shepard
1 of 3Tee Shepard is another top cornerback in this year's class that could decide to explore his options. With Darby dropping out, that leaves Shepard as really the only savior for this secondary. Shepard went from believing they were going to have a ridiculous cornerback tandem, to being all by himself with majority of this year's secondary leaving.
The 5-star cornerback has other offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Miami and Oregon, among others.
S Elijah Shumate
2 of 3Elijah Shumate recently made his decision this weekend, while Darby was still on the team. Much like Shepard, he may want to leave now that the top corner has decided to leave. It's real easy to pick a school when it's loaded with talent on a certain side of the ball. When one of those players leaves, you may begin to have second thoughts as well.
Shumate has offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Georgia Tech and South Carolina, among others.
WR Deontay Greenberry
3 of 3If Tee Shepard decommits and heads elsewhere, wide receiver Deontay Greenberry will likely back out as well. Greenberry is Shepard's cousin and they have wanted to play together coming into the recruiting process.
They could easily end up at schools like Alabama, Arizona State, USC, Miami or even Washington.
With Ronald Darby leaving the program for now, this could create a snowball effect if Notre Dame isn't careful.
