WWE: Has Vince McMahon Let John Cena Become Bigger Than the Company?
WWE mastermind Vince McMahon took professional wrestling to new heights, building a brand that couldn't be touched in the world of sports entertainment. Behind the scenes, he's known as a stereotypical alpha male, a man who puts a ton of emphasis on being bigger, badder, and better.
Vince has said in the past that no one man is bigger than the WWE, but there's one recent case that may put that saying to the test, and that case is John Cena.
There's no denying that John Cena has been one of WWE's greatest assets, if not the greatest. His wide range of appeal, but in particular his ability to draw in the younger demographic, has seen him at the head of the company for years.

Not that there's anything wrong with Cena being one of the WWE's biggest guns, but there are some troubling signs that point towards Vince McMahon relying too heavily on Cena to carry the company.
Let's look no further than the WWE Championship reigns of CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio. On both occasions, Raw ratings failed to reach expectations, and rumors of putting the title back on John Cena leaked in no time.
In the case of Del Rio, he dropped the title to Cena at Night of Champions after Raw posted a 2.7 rating for the NoC go home show and panic gripped the WWE offices in Stamford, Conn. The next episode of Raw pulled in a 3.0, hardly an impressive number for a post-PPV Raw, and Hugh Jackman was the guest star.
Thankfully, cooler heads have prevailed when it comes to CM Punk's current title reign, for the time being at least.
After Raw had an eight week streak of second hour declines in ratings, a CM Punk gauntlet match in the final match of the night on the Dec. 26 episode of Raw saw ratings increase in the second hour. Although, a showdown between Kane and John Cena in the final segment gave the ratings a bump as well.
I'm no businessman, but it seems detrimental to the company to pass up building new champions every time they don't draw like John Cena. You can't create legitimate stars if they can't hold a title and come across as such.
Obviously, your number two won't draw like your number one, not at first.
Also, these panicked moves to give John Cena the WWE Championship is resulting in diminishing returns. Eventually, the well will run dry, and that's going to happen much sooner than it would naturally if WWE forces the title on Cena every time their ratings dip.
Vince McMahon is a savvy businessman, and that's why it's so curious that he's putting so much emphasis on one man. John Cena has become Vince's security blanket, and it shows. Cena is no fool, he knows just how much pull he has, the man is Vince's answer to every problem involving draws, ratings, and merchandise.
It's so uncharacteristic for Mr. McMahon to let someone get the upper hand on him, but without a doubt, Cena is in the position of power in this relationship.
